As per usual, Kylie Jenner’s name is back in the headlines. This time, the youngest Keeping Up With the Kardashians star is in the spotlight for a physical altercation with her older sister, Kendall. Unsurprisingly, the fight displayed entitled and tone-deaf behavior from Kylie

Many fans were surprised when the two traditionally drama-free sisters started fighting. It all started when Kendall complained about how Kylie took an outfit Kourtney set aside for Kendall. The supermodel was visibly upset because she was comparatively dressed down and didn’t have another outfit to wear. After a measly attempt to console Kendall, Kylie’s true feelings came out when she said, “Oh like you deserve the outfit more? Whatever you’re a hater, you’re not going to ruin my fu*king night. I’m having a good time.” This wasn’t Kylie’s only disrespectful outburst of the night. A preview showed Kylie yelling and disrespecting her mother as Kris tried to round up the family to leave.

Kylie’s behavior in the latest Keeping Up With the Kardashians episode displayed an air of ignorance and entitlement that has only increased today. Even though the United States is enduring a deadly pandemic, Kylie can’t stop flaunting her wealth on social media. Day after day, the not-quite billionaire has a new provocative photo to post. Recently, Kylie posted a picture of her brown manicure to Instagram. In the photo, Kylie was wearing a massive diamond ring and her hand was placed in front of a crocodile-skin handbag. This wasn’t just any handbag from Kylie’s ludicrously extensive collection, though. The bag in question was an Hermès Diamond Birkin. In 2017, a Himalayan Hermès diamond Birkin, similar to Kylie’s, broke the record for most expensive handbag ever sold at an auction, per CNN. Although it wasn’t pictured, Kylie also has a Hermes Diamond Birkin. The bag is featured on season 18, episode four of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

To be frank, a post of that nature was almost expected from Kylie— she’s seemingly addicted to reminding the world of how wealthy she is. But these are no ordinary times. In the past seven months, over 200,000 Americans have died from COVID-19. Millions are infected and hundreds of thousands are hospitalized. The majority of Americans are reeling from the economic shutdown the pandemic has caused. Hundreds of thousands of Americans can’t pay rent and/or are on the verge of homelessness. For a brief second, Kylie did try to remind the country she wasn’t entirely out of touch. She used a thirst trap bikini-pic to encourage her followers to register to vote. To her credit, The post did result in an 80% traffic increase to vote.org but it was quite literally the least she could do (aside from nothing at all).

Compared to older sister Kim Kardashian, Kylie barely uses the platform she has. The KKW Beauty founder has pushed heavily for criminal justice reform and American recognition of the Armenian genocide. She also toned down how much she flaunts her wealth after her Paris robbery. The argument could be made that Kim is more mature, but with great influence comes great responsibility. Kylie chooses to maintain the level of influence she has but only uses it for her own personal advancement.

The problem lies in the callousness Kylie displays while maintaining a massive platform. At a time when so many people are struggling, Kylie couldn’t be bothered to donate money to organizations to aid those who are struggling financially at this time. The millionaire also hasn’t used her platform to spread information about social justice or political issues. Going forward, Kylie should learn how to effectively use the platform she has. If not, hopefully, people will learn to stop supporting an influencer who only cares about how much she can flaunt her wealth.
