With Caitlyn Jenner's current run for office, it was only a matter of time before the public resurfaced her past controversial comments on gay rights. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum is under fire by many who are still offended by her previous opposition to same-sex marriage and recent comments on transgender women competing in female sports.

Despite announcing her transition in 2015, Caitlyn continues to struggle to gain support from the LGBTQ+ community. The I Am Cait star has been thrust back into the spotlight after she recently announced her campaign to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom. Since putting the word out, she has failed at gaining a solid base of support from the public and even her family. She reportedly disturbed her former daughter-in-law, Kim Kardashian, after she criticized Governor Newsom on his prison reform initiatives, an issue near and dear to Kim's heart. She also is said to have embarrassed her three sons – Brody, Brandon, and Burt – who have joined the Kardashians in not supporting Caitlyn's campaign run.

To make matters worse, a Twitter user recently resurfaced Caitlyn's past opposition to same-sex marriage and appeared to open the floodgates on the reality star's controversial views on gay rights. "Caitlyn Jenner says she’s against same sex marriage," Ginny McDonald tweeted. Back in 2015, Caitlyn confused Ellen DeGeneres on her show after explaining her "traditional" view on gay marriage, Billboard reports. "I'm older than most people in the audience, and I kind of like tradition, you know, and it's always been a man and a woman," Jenner said before adding, "If that word 'marriage' is really, really that important to you, I can go with it."

After the Twitter user reminded everyone of this, many called Caitlyn out over the blatant hypocrisy. "Caitlyn Jenner is no friend of the LGBTQ community. Don't call her an actvist. She's a menace," Star Trek star George Takei said. "I just spit out my coffee...She also says she's against trans GIRLS playing sports. Just the girls. And she wants to be governor of California," another user said while adding a GIF of Kanye West shaking his head. "Am I confused or is she confused," someone else wondered. The confusion has followed Caitlyn since she announced her transition and maintained her conservative views.

At the time of her interview with Ellen, the talk show host recalled the interview with Howard Stern and explained how confusing she finds the reality star. "She still has a judgment about gay marriage," DeGeneres said of Jenner. "And I said, 'You're wanting people to understand and accept you … and you still have a judgment about gay people and marriage.'" It looks like Caitlyn hasn't changed and now wants more people to understand and relate to her enough to become California's next governor.
