Keanu Reeves is Wolverine, at least based on some brand new fan art that is. The John Wick franchise star recently revealed that while he'd be open to playing Batman, he'd be more interested in taking over the role previously portrayed by Hugh Jackman. Jackman debuted as the iconic character back in 2000's X-Men.  He ultimately played the character for well over a decade, culminating with the almost universally-praised Logan. Despite numerous attempts by Ryan Reynolds to lure Jackman into partnering with Deadpool, the Australian actor insists he's done with the character. Disney is also set to reacquire the rights from Fox in the coming months. As such, the role is ripe for recasting.

Reeves himself is no stranger to comic book roles. He previously played the lead in Constantine, a big-screen adaptation of the popular Hellblazer comics. Although the film boasted impressive visuals and compelling story elements, it failed to live up to expectations critically and commercially. The character has since made the jump to television, with Matt Ryan currently sporting the trenchcoat and crooked tie on Legends of Tomorrow. The project did little to harm Reeves' career, however. In 2019, he'll be seen in the highly anticipated John Wick 3, and heard in Toy Story 4.

Some fan art has emerged, however, revealing how Reeves could look if allowed to adopt the sideburns and adamantium claws. Posted by Instagram user spdrmnkyxxiii, the image is a simple but effective one. Depicted in an unspecified Japanese village (referencing one of Logan's most popular comic book arcs), "Wolvereeves" merely stands in the street. There is, unfortunately, no sign of the traditional yellow outfit. Instead, dressed in street clothes, he stares intensely at something out of view. His iconic claws are already out, however, implying something brutal and action-packed is no doubt moments away from occurring.

Fan art has become an increasingly popular medium in recent years. Whether it be a Disney Plus show for Rocket Raccoon or depicting a character swap between Ezra Miller and Tom Holland, the various pieces bring to life the various fantasies and concepts that permeate the internet. Equally, it visually realizes numerous fan theories, such as the widely predicted death of Hawkeye's family.

There are many who believe that there's no replacing Jackman. The actor did, after all, come from relative obscurity to firmly make the character his own. The role also catapaulted Jackman to the kind of superstardom that led even the widely criticized Great Showman to incredible box office success. As such, it's understandable that some struggle to imagine who could serve as successful a box office draw as Jackman.

On the other hand, there are others who are already debating furiously who could play the MCU's inevitable incarnation. In recent months Tom Hardy, fresh off the success of Venom, has been suggested. Some even put forward Dougray Scott, who was originally set to play the character before having to step down. Such names as Jai Courtney and even Zac Efron have even been mentioned. Whether Reeves will now join that list remains to be seen. Judging by the comments on the image, however, many like what they see. Whatever the case, there's no doubting his popularity. At 54, the John Wick films even proved that the actor more than has what it takes in the action department. Whether or not any of that will translate to him actually having a shot is anybody's guess. It will, however, be fun to speculate until a new and official Wolverine emerges.
