Keanu Reeves reveals his dream ending for the John Wick franchise. Debuting in 2014, the property quickly became a nice comeback vehicle for the actor, who had previously headlined several of the 1990's most iconic action films. Through a combination of expertly choreographed set pieces and emotionally resonant storytelling, the John Wick films earned themselves a passionate fan base and viewers are excited to see more from this world. The third film, subtitled Parabellum, opens in theaters later this month. There's also a Continental TV spinoff show being planned.

When one digs beneath the surface of the stunning gun-fu sequences and brutal kills, it's apparent the John Wick films tell a story about a man yearning to leave his troubled past behind and start life anew, but keeps getting dragged back into the underworld. While the creative team always have more ideas for other followups, there will come a day when the John Wick movie series needs to end. And Reeves knows exactly what he'd like to do in order to bring the whole thing home.

In an interview with Screen Rant while promoting Parabellum, Reeves shared how he'd like to end the franchise, opting for a happier conclusion to John's tale:

Hmm if it was Marvel. I could do both. I can die in battle and then come back. But what would I prefer? I want John to be happy. So, let's have him walk out in the sunset because he's not, he's fighting for his life. So if there's a battle to be won, it's his life. So that he can remember the love and for Helen. So, walk off into the sunset.

At this point, many fans would be inclined to agree with Reeves' comments. Watching John go down in a blaze of glory against an endless swarm of foes has the potential to be epic action cinema, but it would be much more cathartic to see him walk off into the sunset with his loyal pitbull by his side. All John's wanted since the first movie is to find a peaceful existence, and he's constantly been robbed of that. After watching him endure so much over the course of three installments, it'd be nice to see him sit back and relax, knowing it's all over. Similar endings to franchises have been pulled off in the past, such as Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight Rises.

Right now, it's possible there are more entries in the John Wick series, but Chapter 3 has the feeling of finality attached to it. As its subtitle implies, the Baba Yaga is preparing for war against the High Table, fighting off a plethora of enemies looking to cash in on the $14 million bounty. The premise of Chapter 3 is essentially "John Wick vs. the world," and it's difficult to see where the filmmakers can go from here. If Parabellum is indeed the end of the line, fans can take solace knowing director Chad Stahelski and crew delivered another exhilarating action spectacle that's just as thrilling as its predecessors.
