While Cyberpunk 2077 may have had a lacklustre debut, the phenomenon is Keanu Reeves’ character Johnny Silverhand lives on. The character of Silverhand practically bleeds charisma, so much so that even Keanu seems to be a fan, as the Hollywood star was recently spotted purchasing official Cyberpunk 2077 Johnny Silverhand merchandise in a comic store.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a game by Polish developers CD Projekt Red, famous for creating The Witcher games based on popular Polish books. Unlike The Witcher 3, fans of the developers were disappointed in the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, which had many technical issues on release. Many fans found the game to be lacking compared to footage shown prior to release, pointing out that some of the aspects of the game were missing from the final version. Since the release, CD Projekt Red has released a number of patches for the game across all the platforms, but the game had never managed to recapture the excitement that had been building before it was launched.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, Keanu Reeves was spotted in a comic shop buying a Johnny Silverhand figurine. The image can be seen on Twitter, having been downloaded before being taken down. He also seemed to have been buying some other Cyberpunk 2077 merch, based on the image and the items in his hands. It’s unclear as to why the star would need to purchase these items, as usually, the publishers would have sent someone such as Reeves, who was part of the game his own merchandise when the game came out.
Back in 2019, Keanu took to the stage to announce that he was working with Projekt CD Red on the not yet released Cyberpunk 2077 as the smooth criminal/terrorist, Johnny Silverhand. Reeves stole the show at the time, creating the “You’re breathtaking” meme after the crowd became overly excited at the surprise guest’s appearance. Most people agree that Silverhand is one of the best aspects of the game, and it seems that Reeves agrees. Here's hoping that we see where those figures end up in time – whether that be on a shelf or in the hands of a super fan.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia. The game is playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but an upgrade is for the new-generation consoles is still in the works.
