Keanu Reeves is helping fans find their local comic shops so they can get their hands on copies of his new comic series BRZRKR when it goes on sale in February. The Boom! Studios series is co-written by Reeves and Matt Kindt with art by Ron Garney, colorist Bill Crabtree, and letterer Clem Robins. It is the John Wick star’s first foray into the world of comics.

The series centers around a man named Berzerker, an immortal half-man, half-God who bears a striking resemblance to Reeves himself. The character has been wandering the world for centuries, “cursed and compelled to violence…even at the sacrifice of his sanity.” Berzerker eventually strikes a deal with the U.S. government to fight the battles that are too violent and brutal for them, in return for answers about his existence and how to end it. The premise evokes images of characters like John Wick and Wolverine. Reeves has said in the past that he would love to play Wolverine in a film.

In a new video posted to the Boom! Studios YouTube page, Reeves discusses his excitement about the upcoming comic series. “Creating and co-writing BRZRKR is a thrill for me, as I have loved comics since I was a young kid and they have been a significant influence on me artistically throughout my career,” he says. He tells viewers to contact their local comic book shop via www.comicshoplocator.com and tell them to pull a copy of BRZRKR each month. “That’s all it takes to join us for this exciting 12-issue series about an immortal man cursed with power, forced into violence, and searching for meaning in a life consumed by chaos.”

BRZRKR launched as a Kickstarter project, raising more than $1.4 million. It will consist of 12 issues, which will be collected into three graphic novel volumes. The series is described as an “action-packed, high octane comic book series with depictions of graphic violence, blood, and gore.” For fans of the John Wick and Matrix films, that sounds right up their alley. While this is Reeves’s first time writing a comic book, he previously starred in Constantine, an adaptation of the DC series Hellblazer, and said he wants to play John Constantine again. There have also long been discussions about him joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in some capacity. The Matrix films were also heavily influenced by comic books. Boom! Studios also released a comic series based on Reeves’s Bill and Ted films.

The main cover art for the series is by Rafael Grampá, with variant covers by Mark Brooks, Dan Mora and Lee Bermejo. There will also be rare variants by Jonboy Meyers that are signed by Keanu Reeves. The first issue of BRZRKR will go on sale on February 24.
