The Party's Just Beginning (6.2)

Gillan put on multiple hats to star in, write, and direct The Party's Just Beginning. This 2018 British-American drama film tells of a 24-year-old woman who attempts to cope with her best friend's suicide by engaging in reckless behavior. When she meets a stranger with a few secrets of his own, however, she is forced to confront her painful past.

The film was applauded for taking a fresh angle to challenging themes. However, it didn't rank very highly amongst her roles.

Oculus (6.5)

Early in Gillan's film career, she starred as Kaylie Russel in the 2013 supernatural horror film Oculus. The movie has Kaylie blaming an old mirror for the suffering and death of her family. It jumps between two timelines, one in which Kaylie is only 12 and one eleven years later.

Oculus was praised for putting emphasis on its impending doom and featuring strong performances, despite its mediocre IMDb score.

Spies In Disguise (6.7)

Most recently, Gillan voiced a character in this 2019 animated comedy from Blue Sky. Spies in Disguise tells of a smart teenager who accidentally turns Lance, "the world's most awesome spy," into a pigeon. The two must team up to stop a terrorist and turn Lance back into a human before its too late.

While Will Smith and Tom Holland star, Karen Gillan backs them up as Eyes, a communications specialist paired up with Ears, who is voiced by DJ Khaled.

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle (6.9)

The Jumanji franchise was revitalized in 2017 with the release of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. This adventure comedy tells of a group of teenagers who get sucked into a video game. They must complete the game's wild quest in order to be transported back into the real world.

The leading cast included Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan, all of which acted as the avatars the teens took on when inside the game. Gillan's Ruby Roundhouse is skilled in the special ability of martial arts dancing.

Jumanji: The Next Level (7.0)

Welcome to the Jungle's sequel received even more applause than its predecessor. Taking place three years after the events of the original film, the teenagers jump back into the Jumanji video game after learning that their friend Spencer has gone back in search of a purpose.

Upon arriving in the game, however, they learn that the world is malfunctioning and there are new challenges for them to face. The fast-paced humor and freshened plot of this sequel left fans entranced.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 (7.6)

Gillan reprised her role as Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel. This time around, Peter Quill and the gang are asked to keep the Sovereign aliens' batteries from invaders. However, after Rocket Raccoon ends up taking them as his own, the Sovereign sets out to attack the Guardians. This leads Quill on an adventure that has him meeting his father and learning dark secrets about his past.

Nebula's own background was explored, as was the relationship between her and her sister Gamora and the events that pulled them apart.

The Big Short (7.8)

This 2015 biographical drama tells of a group of investors who attempt to capitalize on the housing market, with the financial crisis of 2007-2008 following as a result.

The film received praise for its unconventional narrative, which attempted to explain the complexities of financial instruments in an entertaining and easy to understand way.

Gillan took on the minor role of Evie, a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission employee who leaves her job to instead work for a bank.

Guardians Of The Galaxy (8.0)

The original Guardians film has Peter Quill nabbing a mysterious orb from the planet Morag. Though he attempts to sell the object on Xandar, he is soon attacked by an alien woman, intelligent raccoon, and humanoid tree who hope to take it as their own. The four are imprisoned; They soon learn that teaming together is the only way they'll ever get out and save the universe from the orb's untested powers.

In this film, Gillan's Nebula acts as another obstacle that the Guardians have to get through in order to achieve their goals.

Avengers: Infinity War (8.5)

Gamora puts her hand around Nebula's throat in Guardians of the Galxy 2.

The third installment in the Avengers series has the heroes teaming up together to face Nebula's adopted father, Thanos. To stop him from taking control, they must collect the six Infinity Stones that Thanos plans to utilize for his own desires.

Gamora ends up revealing the location of the Soul Stone to Thanos, who plans to torture Nebula. While Nebula escapes his wrath, Gamora is not so lucky.

The exciting cliff-hanger ending of Infinity War had fans wishing the sequel would come quickly.

Avengers: Endgame (8.5)

Topping off the list as Gillan's highest-rated film of all time is 2019's Avengers: Endgame.

In the Avengers finale, Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, Bruce Banner, and Tony Stark team back together to reverse Thanos' twisted reality. In order to do so, they must travel back in time to obtain the Infinity Stones.

Gillan's character ends up searching out redemption in Endgame. Though Nebula was bitter earlier in the series, she works hard to find forgiveness and move on from the past. Her character progression in this movie is the best we see.
