Karen Gillan wants Nebula's story in The Avengers: Infinity War to mirror her story in the comic book. When it comes to adapting comic books into movies, getting the villains right is just as important as the heroes. Marvel certainly has plenty of villains to pick from. But who is a good guy and who is a bad guy is not always so clear. In Guardians of the Galaxy there were several villainous characters, including Gamora's sister and rival Nebula. However, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Nebula is set to join the Guardians, in spite of how hard she tried to kill them last time.

The question of whether Nebula can be trusted or not is sure to be a major theme in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Her history of evil deeds and general rudeness aside, there is virtually no way that Gamora would ever trust her. The two of them were raised to compete. Yet in a team of criminals, rogues, and misfits, it may not be impossible for Nebula to find her place and fit in.

Nebula actress Karen Gillan spoke to Screen Rant recently about her character and journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Already confirmed for The Avengers: Infinity War, Gillan knows exactly what she wants to happen to Nebula:

"Screen Rant: In Infinity Gauntlet Nebula plays a huge role in it. Do you hope some of that plays out in Infinity War?

I hope so. Of course, that would be amazing! When I was preparing to play Nebula the first time, I read the Infinity Gauntlet. I loved it because it was like the most Nebula heavy comic and yeah, I mean that would be amazing if it does for that storyline. I'm hoping. I don't know yet - very big secret, but I'm hoping."

Nebula

Clearly Gillan has done her homework. In the comic Infinity Gauntlet Nebula is badly abused by Thanos, before taking the gauntlet from him and wreaking some pretty serious havoc. The movie won't be exactly like the comic, of course. Many of the characters in it have not been introduced to the MCU yet, where as characters who aren't in the comic will be in the film. Some of them are X-Men, who are separate from the MCU and are telling their own story. And without giving away too many spoilers to anyone who has not read Infinity Gauntlet and wants to -- if the movies follow the books there are going to be some pretty gruesome and gory death scenes. Not likely, since the movie won't be rated-R.

So whether Nebula's story in The Avengers: Infinity War is the same as it is in the book remains to be seen. So far, she and the rest of The Guardians have been pretty separate from The Avengers. So how they all fit in together should make for a interesting element to the story. Whether Nebula is an ally or an enemy, she certainly has a role to play in the upcoming battle.
