Star of Keeping Up With the Kardashians Kanye West is most certainly still in the presidential race. He posted a tweet urging his followers to sign a petition for him to be added to the ballot in South Carolina.

West first announced his run for the Oval Office in a tweet on July 4. Soon after, in a bizarre interview with Forbes, West revealed he intended to run under the “Birthday Party” because he could not run as a Republican. Because West was too late to appear as an independent in some states, many assumed he had dropped out of the race. Those suspicions were seemingly confirmed when a campaign advisor said the “2020 Vision” campaign was dead in the water. Just hours later, though, the Oklahoma Election Commission announced West would appear on the Oklahoma primary ballot. An unsubstantiated committee named “West 2020” also filed with the Federal Election Committee.

West tweeted twice this past week asking South Carolinians to sign the petition for him to appear on the ballot. In both tweets, the link Kanye2020.country takes you to the petition (the URL is a partial nod to the former name of his upcoming album, Donda). Signees can put their information in place of the bright red letters. The large “click here to add your signature Ye ‘20” redirects you to the previous placeholders. In the second tweet, West listed locations where you can sign in-person petitions: Chuck Town Bar and Grill, Adams Run Civic Center, Blue Note Bistro, Ravenel Trucking, Tia Banquet Hall, Scotts Grand Banquet Hall, Inspired by Anette Events, and Baconsbridge Worship Center.

Choosing to include in-person signing locations is an interesting addition considering South Carolina’s recent spike in coronavirus cases. As of publishing, the state has upwards of 1,500 cases. It seems West would rather use his platform for his own personal gain rather than encourage his followers to maintain social distance. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering the Trump administration’s outward disregard of the ongoing pandemic. West used to be an adamant Trump supporter until recently. The rapper revealed in his Forbes interview how much he disapproved of Trump’s decision to go the White House bunker during nationwide protests over the police murder of George Floyd.

Although West may be getting serious about his aspirations, he still has a low chance of success. TMZ reported West is only polling at an abysmal 2 percent. To compare, Joe Biden and Trump are both polling upwards of 30 percent with Biden in the lead. Those who were afraid West may steal a significant amount of votes to interfere with a Biden win come fall can likely put their worries away.
