Kang the Conqueror is officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and here's every variant of the powerful Marvel villain who could appear in the future and when that appearance could happen. When it came to predicting which character could be the next Thanos-level threat in the MCU Phase 4, Kang was among the most popular suggestions from Marvel fans. Avengers: Endgame's time travel set the stage for the time-hopping, universe-conquering threat to make an appearance before too long.

In a somewhat surprising move, Kang's MCU debut came in the Loki season one finale. Marvel Studios originally announced that Jonathan Majors will play Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. However, Loki included Majors as a character known as He Who Remains. The episode explained that he was the last version of Kang to exist after he defeated all other versions of himself and created the Time Variance Authority and Sacred Timeline to ensure his variants didn't return. Just as Kang was introduced, though, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) killed He Who Remains.

Thanks to the variant concept Loki introduced to the MCU, other versions of Kang will continue to pop up in the future. He Who Remains teased that if Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie thought he was evil, they should wait until they encounter his variants. That terrifying tease gives Marvel Studios the ability to use multiple versions of Kang in Phase 4 and beyond. Just as there were very different takes on Loki in the Disney+ series, Kang has incredible unique characterizations in the comics. Here are the Kang variants the MCU can use next and when each of them could appear.

Kang the Conqueror

Jonathan Majors Loki Kang the conqueror variants

The main version of Kang that the MCU will likely use in the future is Kang the Conqueror. The comics have a "Prime Kang" from Earth-6311 who originated as Nathaniel Richards in the 30th century. Marvel has shifted back and forth over the years about whether or not this version of Kang is a distant descendent of Reed Richards. For the purposes of the MCU, the main version of Kang the Conqueror could be simplified a bit and skew closer to the origin that He Who Remains revealed in Loki. In that case, Kang will be a brilliant inventor and power-hungry conqueror from the distant future who sets his sights on ruling a single universe, multiple universes, or even the entire multiverse.

Marvel Studios has already confirmed that Kang the Conqueror's next MCU movie will be Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. He Who Remains teased this version of himself in Loki season 1 by saying he's been called many things before, with "conqueror" among the titles he's had. There is also the possibility that Kang the Conqueror's MCU future will also include an appearance in Loki season 2, as he could be the Kang variant that is now publicly leading the version of the TVA that Loki finds himself in. Both of these appearances can happen, but the MCU's main Kang will also likely be around long after. He could be the main villain of a future Avengers movie, appear in Fantastic Four as a means to confirm the connection to Reed Richards, and so on.

Rama-Tut

Kang The Conqueror fights Rama-Tut in Marvel Comics.

Rama-Tut is another one of Kang's many variants who could appear in the MCU before too long. This version of Kang lives out a portion of his life in ancient Egypt and becomes pharaoh after using his advanced technology to easily seize control of the country. This time in Rama-Tut's life brought him into conflict with the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu, for having the locals worship him instead of the actual diety. Rama-Tut's story continues in many different ways from there, but this setup gives the MCU a few chances to include this Kang variant. A trip to ancient Egypt could be in Eternals as it spans 7,000 years in the MCU timeline. Doing so might give Marvel a chance to tease Rama-Tut's presence in the past before he pursued other goals. There's also the slight chance that Rama-Tut could be referenced in Moon Knight if Khonshu explains some past struggles to Marc Spector (Oscar Isaac).

Immortus

One of Kang's most powerful variants is known as Immortus. This is a much older version of Kang who grew bored with conquering other universes and passed off control of his empire to Ravonna Renslayer. He briefly returns to his Rama-Tut days before discovering the realm known as Limbo. Immortus studies the pocket dimension and makes it his home, as it allows him to observe other timelines. He's later approached by the Time-Keepers to oversee a 7,000-year span and keep other versions of Kang from causing too much distress to the proper flow of time. Immortus interfered with the timeline repeatedly over the years to ensure that his future will be achieved. Immortus could very well be the version of Kang that appears in Loki season 2. He might also be the prime candidate to appear as the villain of Avengers 5.

Scarlet Centurion

The Scarlet Centurion holds the Avengers in an hourglass in Marvel Comics.

Scarlet Centurion is another Kang variant with the potential to appear in the MCU's future. There are a few different versions of the character in the comics, but he is traditionally a version of Kang who goes back in time to try and conquer time using heroes as his pawns. This brought him into conflict with the Avengers and forced them to battle other versions of themselves. Another version of Scarlet Centurion repeatedly fought the Squadron Supreme in Earth-712. There were rumors that the Squadron Supreme could be in Loki, but that never panned out. If the team is featured in Loki season 2, perhaps Scarlet Centurion will be the villain they are facing.

Iron Lad

Iron Lad flies into battle in Marvel Comics.

A very different version of Kang who seems destined to appear in the MCU is Iron Lad. This version of Kang traveled to the present day from the future to try and become a hero instead of following his destiny to become a time-traveling warlord. Once he arrived in the present, Kang went to the Avengers mansion to seek protection and new allies. However, the Avengers were disbanded. This led him to find files on potential young heroes who could become new Avengers and recruit them. Kang began calling himself Iron Lad and formed the Young Avengers with Wiccan, Hulkling, and Patriot. Marvel Studios is quickly assembling the Young Avengers members in Phase 4, so Iron Lad might not be too far behind if a Young Avengers movie or Disney+ show is announced, as is widely expected.

Mister Gryphon

Mr. Gryphon Kang attacks Kamala Khan and Miles Morales in Marvel Comics.

The MCU could also utilize Kang's other variant known as Mister Gryphon. This version of Kang became stuck in the 21st century due to a glitch in the timestream. He took on the alias of Mister Gryphon, a successful businessman and CEO of Qeng Enterprises. This Kang variant bought Stark Tower, something a Loki episode 5 Easter egg teased was attempted in the MCU timeline, too. If Mister Gryphon is also stuck in the main MCU timeline, he could appear in something like Armor Wars as a villain trying to use Tony Stark's technology for his own evil gains.
