WARNING: Spoilers for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Theories about Kang killing Thor in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty sound impossible after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Several fan theories postulate that the God of Thunder will meet his end at the hands of Kang the Conqueror. There’s no confirmation that these two characters will ever meet, but an encounter is certainly a possibility, especially with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty on the horizon.

Most of the speculation regarding Thor dying in battle to Kang is founded on a comment made by the villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Prior to the movie’s theatrical release, the marketing hyped up Kang’s MCU debut by showing off an exchange between Kang and Scott Lang in which the former remarks, “you’re an Avenger… have I killed you before? They all blur together after a while. You’re not the one with the hammer.” The obvious implication of this reveal is that Kang murdered one of Thor’s multiversal counterparts before arriving in the Quantum Realm. Partially because of this tease, it’s been suggested that this particular fate could be what awaits Earth-616’s Thor.

Quantumania’s Final Battle Makes Kang Killing Thor Seem Impossible

Based on Kang’s ability to hold his against entire Avengers teams in Marvel Comics, Kang killing Thor once felt plausible, but the odds of that happening feel much slimmer now. In Quantumania, Kang lost to the combined forces of Ant-Man, the Wasp, Cassie Lang, Hank Pym, and his ant army. And in the final battle, Kang was beaten by just Scott and Hope. As formidable as these characters may be when using teamwork, they’re nowhere near Thor’s power level. Hemsworth’s character is easily one of the strongest characters in the MCU. Killing him, much less beating him, would be far more challenging than a fight with Quantumania’s small team of heroes.

His difficulties in Quantumania make Kang’s claims about his past encounters with the Avengers come across as a huge stretch. Essentially, Kang lost to a group that didn’t boast a single MCU powerhouse. The comic character, on the other hand, regularly battled Avengers teams that included heroes like Hercules, Thor, and Namor on their lineups. If Kang does face Thor in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, it’s the Avenger – and not the movie’s main villain - who should hold the advantage in a no-holds-barred fight.

The MCU Would Need A Stronger Kang To Beat Thor (But Is There One?)

For theories about Kang killing Thor to prove true, the MCU would need a much more powerful variant of the villain to pull this off. But in spite of how many Kangs are out there, the MCU may struggle to find one capable of defeating Thor by himself. After all, the Phase 5 movie didn’t leave much room for there to be significantly stronger Kangs in the MCU’s multiverse. It indicated that only Quantumania’s Kang could stop the Council of Kangs, meaning that he isn’t an unusually weak version of the villain. In fact, he may have been one of the most powerful Kang variants.

All things considered, Thor’s downfall in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty – if it happens at all – would have to depend on some convoluted time-travel shenanigans on the part of the Council of Kangs. Ganging up on him may be the only hope they have of him bringing him down. Regardless of what happens, stopping Thor certainly won’t be the trivial task Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania made it out to be.
