Warning: contains a preview for Avengers Mech Strike #4!

Thanos and Kang are both fearsome foes for the Avengers, but in a new preview, some major differences are evident. Avengers Mech Strike #4 marks Thanos' debut into this miniseries. Kang and the Mad Titan will be facing off, while a surprising new partnership begins.

Avengers Mech Strike pits Earth's Mightiest Heroes against Kang the Conqueror. After suffering so many defeats, the team's ready to accept help from an unexpected source: Thanos himself. The Mad Titan will have his own mech suit to match the rest of the Avengers as Thanos joins them in combat. Thanos isn't usually an ally to Marvel's heroes since he's often a villain they have to stop. However, things are different now.

Created by Jed Mackay, Carlos Magno, Guru-eFX, and VC's Cory Petit, Avengers Mech Strike #4 pits Thanos against Kang. The latest preview for the series reveals a major difference between the ways these two supervillains carry out their plans. While Thanos has particular goals he wants to meet for his own personal gain, Kang's heavily reliant on the actions of others to be satisfied. Check out the preview here:

The preview features the first meeting of Thanos and the Avengers. It also highlights Kang's thoughts about his current plan. Thanos is one of the Avengers' deadliest foes, so it makes sense that they don't want anything to do with him. This Thanos has been plucked out of time by Kang's machinations with no knowledge of the superhero team. While the Avengers are hesitant to work with him as a result, learning this information only piques Thanos' interest. He has no reservations about teaming up. He doesn't know them, just that he hurts them, which thrills him. Their end goals line up at the moment so to him, it makes sense to work together.

Contrarily, Kang has almost everything he could want. He has taken over, altered time, and forced the Avengers to regroup. He has even killed one of them and is generally being left alone. Yet he isn't the least bit satisfied. Like a petulant child, he throws a fit about how they aren't facing him. Once they show up, he's pleased. In some ways, this is rather counterintuitive. If a villain has a plan and they've already largely met it, there's no reason to feel upset - all they have to do is maintain against any future threats. His enemy's on the run, but this doesn't satisfy him. Kang's plan isn't limited to the power he gains from conquering Earth and molding it to his liking with any temporal whim. He also has an obsession with the Avengers that requires them to be completely broken. In some ways, he has already broken the team, leaving them with very few options to defeat him. Kang just isn't satisfied with that.

The main difference here between Thanos and Kang is in the way they carry out their plans and address their foes. While Kang's obsessed with the Avengers, Thanos is just concerned with meeting the goals he sets. The Mad Titan doesn't care how he gets there or with who, he just wants to get there. Whoever's in the way needs to be removed, plain and simple. He will make temporary alliances, then attack his former allies if they interfere with his plans. Kang's the kind of villain who worries about what everyone else is doing, whereas Thanos is always ready to get the job done while the Avengers are forced at the crossroads between the two.
