Kaley Cuoco, voice actress of Harley Quinn in the animated show Harley Quinn on HBO Max, has talked about how she is surprised at what the show gets away with. The series is known for deserving its adult rating, as it does not hold back on the violence or profanity. There have been many events on the show that push the envelope, and will continue to. After DC's streaming service, DC Universe, canceled the show, HBO Max picked it up for a new season.

Harley Quinn follows the titular character's misadventures after she breaks up with The Joker (voiced by Alan Tudyk) and attempts to join the Legion of Doom in the first season. In the second season, Harley deals with the Injustice League and the chaos that unfolds in Gotham City because of them. She is joined on her adventures by Poison Ivy (Lake Bell), Doctor Psycho (Tony Hale), King Shark (Ron Funches), and Sy Borgman (Jason Alexander). The series also sees many DC characters make an appearance, including Batman (Diedrich Baker), Commissioner Gordon (Christopher Meloni), The Penguin (Wayne Knight), and Lex Luthor (Giancarlo Esposito). There have been many other characters that have also appeared on the show, which has excited DC fans.

Now, Cuoco has talked about the contents of the show. Fans and critics alike have all agreed that the show is quite violent and profane, and Cuoco seems to agree. In an interview with Variety, Cuoco talks about how adult the show is and how she describes the animated show. Check out what she had to say about it below:

“I can’t believe we’re still getting away with it. I kept thinking they were going to be like, ‘you can’t say these things.’ It has been a total ride. People are obsessed with the show. I love playing her. I don’t know how it happened. But it’s been insane. And it’s Harley Quinn on acid while drinking a Starbucks. That’s kind of how I describe her.”

Cuoco's comment should not come as a surprise for fans of the show. The fans that love the show know how chaotic the show itself and her portrayal of Harley Quinn is. It is also interesting to know that she is also surprised at what the writing can get away with. DC has really let the writers and talent behind the camera truly take Harley Quinn's chaotic energy and create an enthralling animated show. Giving the creative team more freedom with the IPs seems to be benefitting DC, so hopefully there will be more projects in the future that benefit from this freedom.

Kaley Cuoco's comment on the Harley Quinn show truly describes the tone that the show goes for. The show has been critically acclaimed for both seasons, so it surely must be doing something right. Since the third season will be on HBO Max, it will most likely be able to continue its chaotic vibe. The third season launches on HBO Max at some point in 2021, with the first two seasons already available on the streaming platform.
