Warning: Contains Spoilers for Kaiju No. 8 chapter 72Although Godzilla is one of the most iconic and powerful Kaiju of all time, Shonen Jump’s latest Kaiju weapon could take him down almost instantly. While Godzilla is incredibly powerful in his franchise, the manga Kaiju No. 8 by Naoya Matsumoto features much more dangerous threats. So, it makes sense that the weapons to combat those threats would outclass the classic king of the monsters.
The ultimate antagonist of Kaiju No. 8 is Kaiju No. 9, a creature with numerous powerful abilities and the various other special Kaiju that it is able to create. While these threats blow typical Kaiju like Godzilla out of the water, the human Defense Force does have some tools at their disposal enabling them to fight back. They are able to turn the most powerful defeated Kaiju into weapons that give their wielders different abilities based on the Kaiju they are made from. In order to prepare for the final clash against Kaiju No. 9's forces, many members of the Defense Force have been granted these weapons, which have been a great help in fighting a lot of the non-special Kaiju attacking Japan. The latest chapter of the series reveals that among these are Kikoru Shinomiya, whose parents both also wielded these weapons in the past.
In chapter 72, Shinomiya is launched into the midst of a Kaiju attack wielding the Kaiju Weapon created from Kaiju No. 4. This is the same weapon her mother wielded before she died and just like her mother she is able to use the weapon to devastating effect, much like her parallel Mikasa in Attack on Titan. The Kaiju weapon gives her the power of flight and enables her to move very quickly, letting her rapidly dart around the battlefield and slice up Kaiju before they have the chance to react. Those watching her even note that she has become the ultimate combination of her parents' strengths, using her mother's speed and her father's strength to crush any Kaiju in her path.
Shinomiya's Upgrade Makes Her the Defense Force's Best Weapon
This comparison is especially impressive given that her father wielded a weapon created from Kaiju No. 2 that granted him immense strength beyond that of a regular human. So Kikoru's skill with her mother's weapon and years of training effectively granted her super strength as well as super speed. This makes her the best weapon against Kaiju that the defense force has revealed so far (although the end of the chapter hints that fellow Kaiju fighter Soshiro may be similarly powerful). It is hard to imagine her being able to be defeated by any Kaiju that doesn't have special powers of its own.
Unfortunately for Kikoru, it seems that Kaiju No. 9 has been producing new Kaiju with special abilities. It is unclear how effective they may be against her, but they are still far more threatening than a classic Kaiju. So, despite Shinomiya's new weapon being able to trivialize standard Kaiju like Godzilla, Kaiju No. 8 has far more threatening opponents that may prove more challenging to deal with.
