Warning! Spoilers for Dark Crisis #3 by DC Comics below

The Justice Society of America is about to make its long-awaited return, as the superteam will form again in the pages of DC Comics. In a new preview for Dark Crisis #3, cover art reveals the JSA reuniting with key members, including Cyclone, Obsidian, and Atom Smasher, being seen amongst the more than ten heroes who will band together in the face of the latest crisis in the DC Universe.

The Justice Society of America is the oldest superteam in the DC Universe, as they predate the Justice League by nearly two decades. Debuting in All-Star Comics #3 by Gardner Fox, Everett E. Hibbard, and Sheldon Mayer, the original JSA roster featured Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Sandman, Alan Scott's Green Lantern, the Spectre, and more classic heroes. The team has re-emerged over the years, with the most popular modern iteration coming from Geoff Johns, Dale Eaglesham, and Alex Ross, with the JSA featuring several legacy heroes taking the place of longtime members.

On his Twitter account, Dark Crisis writer Joshua Williamson shared some new cover art for the event's upcoming third issue from Daniel Sampere and Alejandro Sanchez, revealing the return of the Justice Society of America. Following the Death of the Justice League at the hands of Pariah and the Great Darkness, the JSA will make their much-anticipated return, as the image showcases some of the team's most notable heroes.

The team seems to feature Alan Scott's Green Lantern and mixes in the next generation of heroes version of the Justice Society America. The cover art features Obsidian, Jade, Khalid Nassour's Doctor Fate, Beth Chapel's Dr. Mid-Nite, Cyclone, Power Girl, Hawkman, and Hawkgirl, both versions of Wildcat, Atom Smasher, Hourman, and Jakeem Thunder. It's a formidable JSA roster that will help the heroes of Earth as they try to recover from losing the Justice League; as Scott seems to be telling a hero, "You should have come to us from the start, kid."

Hopefully, the Justice Society of America's appearance in the Dark Crisis event at DC Comics leads to the team finally getting their own book again. The JSA is such an important part of the publisher's history and has such a fun cast of heroes, making it a shame they've been sidelined recently. But, their re-emergence will seemingly put them at the forefront in a world without the Justice League, which could mean a significant role for the Justice Society of America going forward. Dark Crisis #3 comes to comic book stores on August 3rd, 2022.
