Zack Snyder has released the first image of his redesigned Steppenwolf for the Snyder Cut of Justice League. Snyder was the credited director on Justice League when it hit theaters in 2017, but it was clear to fans that the movie was not what he intended it to be. He left the project earlier that year following the death of his daughter, which left Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon to finish (and heavily reshoot) the film.

The changes made to Justice League by the studio are significant, as story points and character arcs were completely changed or removed for the theatrical cut. But, fans will finally be able to see Snyder's version of Justice League when it released on HBO Max in 2021. His cut of the movie (which might be released as a mini-series) will incorporate several elements that haven't been seen. Much has been made about Darkseid's role in the film, but Steppenwolf will still be the main villain. However, Snyder has previously confirmed he'll look quite different, and now he's shared the first look.

Snyder shared a low-res image of Steppenwolf from his cut of Justice League on Vero today. The image showcases the drastically different and scarier design that the villain will have in the Snyder Cut. Even though the image is low resolution, Snyder teased that "he's a thing to behold" in HD. Based on the pose and background, it appears this is the scene when Steppenwolf arrives in Themyscira to take their Mother Box.

The visual confirmation of Steppenwolf's new design for Justice League is another example of how Snyder will differentiate his cut from the theatrical version. All of his previous teases of new or alternate Steppenwolf scenes from his cut included the theatrical design for the character. But, now that HBO Max is bringing his vision to the masses, he's been allowed to do some things that Warner Bros. would've kept out of the movie if he never left. Snyder isn't just changing Steppenwolf's appearance to better match the look from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but he's also shown that the black Superman suit will be featured.

Snyder's decision to show more from the Snyder Cut comes in advance of him and the film having a presence at DC FanDome. He has already teased that Justice League's portion of the virtual event will include several reveals, such as the official name and if it will be released on HBO Max as a movie or mini-series. Most importantly though, Snyder has confirmed that an official trailer for the new version of Justice League will also be released. After sharing this look at Steppenwolf, fans can likely expect to see the villain in action when the trailer arrives.
