Justice League Unlimited is getting a revival at DC Comics, as the publisher revealed on Thursday, the popular '2000s animated series is returning in the pages of the comics. In May, the Justice League Unlimited heroes will return in Justice League Inifinity, a seven-issue series from James Tucker, J.M. DeMatteis, and Ethen Beavers, starring the iconic team as they face off against the biggest threats in the universe.

Justice League Unlimited debuted in 2004 on Cartoon Network and spun off from DC's previous iconic animated shows including Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, Batman Beyond, and The New Batman Adventures. While Justice League Unlimited starred the superteam's core members, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Flash, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern, it also focused on expanding the roster, with a wide array of characters from the DC Universe also appearing. The show ran for three seasons to critical acclaim, with the recent Justice League vs. The Fatal Five animated series also considered canon to the series by producer Bruce Timm.

Justice League Infinity will be co-written by Justice League Unlimited producer James Tucker alongside J.M. DeMatteis, who penned a handful of episodes of the series, with Ethen Beavers on art. The teaser from DC Comics reveals the core team assembling once again to fight threats to both Earth and the Multiverse. Previews for issue one tease a being who wanders the cosmos and discovers something which will change the entire universe. Meanwhile, there will also be a war for the throne of Apokolips - as Darkseid was last seen in the cartoon's series finale fading away with Lex Luthor. For fans of the classic animated series, the revival is tremendous news. Justice League Unlimited is one of the best animated shows of all time and to see the world continue in the comics will allow the characters to continue their adventure while building on the already pre-established world. Much like their recent Batman: The Animated Series spin-off comic, DC is using the comic medium to continue these iconic stories. Justice League Infinity will be a digital-first series, meaning the first chapter will be available online on May 13, 2021. The first issue will also be released in print in comic book stores on July 6, 2021.
