This post contains SPOILERS for DC: MECH #2

Gaining a new name and plan of attack, the latest issue of DC: MECH reveals the newest alternate Justice League who've formed to take on Darkseid and his massive army of mechs. Taking place in a DC Universe where power comes solely from mech-suits, the trajectory of the age of heroes drastically changed at the end of WWII when the Justice Society was nearly annihilated defending the world from just one of Darkseid's giant parademons (who was only a scout). Now, this version of the DC Universe has focused all its efforts on creating mechs capable of one day defending the world from the sizable forces of Apokolips.

As seen in the first issue of DC: MECH from writer Kenny Porter and artist Baldemar Rivas, Bruce Wayne and Wally West are the chief pilots who protect the world from all sorts of threats and criminals like the Rogues (who likewise have mechs of their own). Having become the leader of the Flash project after Barry Allen and Jay Garrick, Wally West has a similar legacy to carry piloting the fastest mech-suit this alternate universe has to offer. Likewise, Bruce Wayne is a maverick who'd prefer to go on solo missions. Meeting Kal-El and his advanced Kryptonian mech for the first time, this version of Superman has arrived to Earth just ahead of Darkseid's forces who've finally made their way to invade Earth after conquering several previous worlds (including Krypton).

Now, the new DC: MECH #2 reveals Wonder Woman's impressive mech-suit which resembles a fearsome Spartan warrior. It also debuts Hal Jordan and John Stewart who are co-pilots for the Green Lantern, a unique mech-suit which can transform into a flight craft, having been passed down from Alan Scott himself. Joining Bruce, Kal-El, and Wally, it becomes clear that all of these pilots will need to come together as a new "Justice Squadron" to successfully protect the Earth from Darkseid. Likewise, they also come up with a plan to coat their suits in Nth metal to give them the edge they need against the forces of Apokolips. While most of the brave heroes are on board, it looks as though Bruce and his Batman mech will need some more convincing before he can fully trust his new allies (he's especially suspicious of Kal-El).

DC Forms The New Justice Squadron In DC Mech

At any rate, this new version of the Justice League is very exciting. Not only do they homage the Pacific Rim franchise in more ways than one, the fresh take they offer for the classic team fans know and love is contrasted quite well with Juan Gedeon and Daniel Warren Johnson's Jurassic League where the heroes are all sentient and super-powered dinosaurs. However, both series still have Darkseid as the primary villain, proving that the best thing the Lord of Apokolips does is uniting heroes together to defeat him no matter what universe they hail from.

Hopefully, the new Justice Squadron will be able to coalesce in future issues to save the world. They're going to have to if this new Justice League even wants a chance at stopping a villain as powerful as Darkseid (especially a version that has giant parademons at his disposal). DC: MECH #2 is on sale now.
