Ben Affleck promises big twists and surprises still remain unspoiled in Justice League. For nearly the past two years, Warner Bros.' upcoming DC film has been one of the most debated, covered, and dissected movies in recent memory. The now storied production has been thoroughly examined, and has led to several reports about what actually remains from Zack Snyder's original vision. Throughout this entire process, many have been weary of spoilers coming out unofficially, but even more so through official marketing materials (a la Doomsday's reveal in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice's marketing).
Thanks to the level of attention Justice League has received, there have been rumors regarding just about any single event happening or DC character appearing. The marketing, meanwhile, has largely focused on the five main members of the team - Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman - but has continued to tease the eventual arrival of Superman. This, and other surprises, are still intact according to Ben Affleck.
ETalk spoke with the Justice League members in the lead up to the film's release and asked them about the importance of keeping secrets. Affleck answered the question by teasing there are plenty of surprising moments to come in Justice League.
Well, I think any time you’re making a movie, you’re telling a story, you don’t want to give it away. These movies, people pay a lot of attention to them, so they have to work a little bit harder to keep it secret. There’s some cool reveals and fun twists and, so far, we’ve managed to keep them secret.
The most obvious reveal/twist that has yet to be shown is how, when, and why Superman is brought back from the dead. Ever since the dirt on his grave started to float, fans have been wondering what brings Superman back to life, and the marketing has shown incredible restraint to not reveal anything from his rebirth (or so they've led us to believe). How clever the marketing actually has been will be determined once the movie is released as fans look back on the footage released to see what misdirections were included.
Outside of Superman's return, the other biggest inclusion fans have debated is the presence of the Green Lantern Corps. Rumors claim two members will be shown, but they aren't the big name character many expect. A reveal including them has yet to be teased or shown in the marketing, so Warner Bros. and their marketing department have been able to avoid spoiling that, if the rumors are true. Additionally, appearances from Deathstroke, Lex Luthor, and more have all been reported, but they've yet to be seen in the trailers, not to mention they may not have made the final cut.
All in all, fans who've paid close attention to the marketing of the film and its coverage should feel good knowing there are big surprises still. Hopefully, the fear of these spoilers leaking is the main reason why Justice League's embargo is so close to the film's release, and is not an indication of the film being poor in quality. Everyone will be able to see for themselves very soon, so we can only hope any of the twists Affleck is teasing don't leak in the coming days.
