The first official Justice League Snyder Cut trailer includes a scene that revisits the death of Superman - but why? After years of fan campaigns — and over $100,000 raised for suicide prevention charities - Zack Snyder's original vision is set to become a cinematic reality. Confirmed to be coming to HBO Max in 2021, the popular DC Comics team will face off against a vastly different Steppenwolf. Additionally, Snyder's version will also include the looming presence of Desaad and the brutal cosmic overlord known as Darkseid.

Though no additional photography expected, Snyder has already promised an extensive runtime packed with hours of unseen footage. Vowing not to use even a shred of footage from Joss Whedon's reshoots, the Justice League Snyder Cut will see Ben Affleck, Ezra Miller, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, and Henry Cavill unite in the ways Snyder always envisioned. Even before the confirmation, Snyder teased fans with images from his Justice League. Those efforts have only increased in the days leading up to the DC FanDome event. With the highly-anticipated panel, however, came the first full teaser trailer. Set to Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", it offers a haunting glimpse at the potential end of the world and the heroes determined to prevent it.

The Justice League Snyder Cut trailer focused heavily on the interconnected themes of death and resurrection. As well as outright showing the tragic death of Silas Stone, elements of Superman's dramatically-different return were also emphasized. The trailer also revisited Superman's death from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The main reason for this is because, as has already been revealed, Superman's death scream wakes the Mother Boxes and will ultimately spark the Justice League's main conflict. The revisiting of the moment will also serve to continue a trend that has prevailed throughout Snyder's soon-to-be-trilogy of DCEU offerings. Like how Batman v Superman had a flashback to Superman and General Zod's battle from Bruce Wayne's point of view, Superman's death will open Snyder's Justice League and offer the additional, aforementioned facets.

Justice League Snyder Cut Resurrected Superman

The result will add to the more serialized feel that Snyder was originally going for, as part of his initial five-movie DCEU plan. However, the decision to revisit Superman's death will no doubt extend beyond tying the installments together. Time will have passed in the world since Superman sacrificed himself to defeat Doomsday. For Superman himself, though, the moment between his death and his resurrection will likely feel almost instantaneous. As such, the reason to show the moment again would lend itself to putting the audience firmly in the last Kryptonian's shoes. That is most probably why the shot of the moment somehow felt even more harrowing.

As fans are already aware, Superman's resurrection will lead to a clash with the other Justice League members. The inclusion of the death scene will make just as relatable the trauma raging through Superman's mind as he lashes out. Equally, that death will be just as haunting for the other characters, especially Batman, and also makes palpable his subsequent guilt. As such, it makes sense to put it firmly back in the minds of viewers too. As revealed at Justice Con, Clark Kent's journey will also include his donning the popular Superman black suit. That almost PTSD suffered by Superman also could serve as organic fuel for the ultimate decision to not yet return to the classic red and blue. All in all, it serves as yet another testament to just how deeply Snyder has thought about his version of Justice League - as well as the level of detail he has poured into what now amounts to his passion project.
