The history lesson sequence in the Snyder Cut of Justice League will be much longer than that from the theatrical cut. The Snyder Cut is undoubtedly the biggest success story of 2020, as fans have campaigned for years for the release of director Zack Snyder's original Justice League. Snyder, who saw much of his plans for the DC film altered after he left production in 2017, announced back in May that the Snyder Cut is headed to HBO Max next year. This Justice League will feature significant changes from the version that was released in theaters (and helmed by Joss Whedon), from brand new characters to different storylines.

Among the characters included in the Snyder Cut but not the theatrical Justice League is Darkseid, the iconic DC villain. Snyder always intended Darkseid to be the over-arching antagonist of his Justice League, and there was supposed to be a longer sequence detailing his first battle on Earth. Dubbed the "history lesson" of Justice League, this would serve as a better introduction to Darkseid and the McGuffins of the film, the Mother Boxes. Fans have known about Snyder's original history lesson for years now, but it's only been recently that they've actually gotten some new insight into how the sequence goes down.

As part of this weekend's Justice Con fan event, Justice League cinematographer Fabian Wagner sat down for a panel where he briefly talked about the history lesson scene. While Wagner couldn't exactly confirm how long Snyder's original sequence will be, he did share that there were a lot of elements shot to make it happen, and it could prove to be much longer in the Snyder Cut. "We did shoot a lot of elements for the history lesson," Wagner said. "And I'm sure that you could make it into a quite substantial, long sequence."

A brief clip from the Justice League history lesson was actually the first bit of Snyder Cut footage shown, as Snyder and his stars shared it last month. For fans who were disappointed by the lack of Darkseid in the theatrical cut, as well as those who are interested in the mythology behind the character, news of a longer history lesson will surely be welcome. This is just further proof that Snyder's Justice League promises to be a very different (and fulfilling) experience than what came before.

Snyder also shared a second Justice League clip this weekend at Justice Con, and this one shows Henry Cavill's Superman with his long-awaited black suit. All of this comes ahead of next month's DC FanDome event, which is guaranteed to include even more Justice League Snyder Cut reveals. It's safe to say that anticipation for the Snyder Cut is still rising. While there's still at least half a year to go before the Snyder Cut's release, fans have a lot more teases to look forward to.
