Zack Snyder’s Justice League is getting an official release on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD this September. The four-hour director’s cut released on HBO Max earlier this year, earning far greater praise from both critics and fans than the 2017 theatrical cut. Now, DCEU loyalists will be able to take the Snyder Cut home for themselves.

The leadup to and eventual release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League is one of the most incredible and bizarre Hollywood stories in recent memory. Fan petitions often rise up when a film is edited severely by a studio, or simply when it falls short of expectations, but those petitions rarely manifest in any concrete way. The fact that Snyder’s cut of Justice League was not only released to the public, but also given even more money by Warner Bros. for reshoots, additional special effects, and a whole new soundtrack, and that the film ended up being a critical success, remains shocking months after its premiere.

Now, those who prefer physical copies of their favorite films will be able to bring the Snyder Cut home. Snyder announced on Twitter that the four-hour director’s cut will be releasing on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on September 7. Presumably, that package will include both the full-color and black-and-white versions of the film, as well as a series of bonus features. However, no details have yet been confirmed.

Zack Snyder's Justice League Coming to 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray

Unfortunately for fans, the Snyder Cut’s Blu-ray release may be its final hurrah. Despite further fan campaigning online, Warner Bros. has shown no interest in restoring Snyder’s plans for the DCEU. The director himself has said such a move would be extremely unlikely, and after the taut relationship he had with the studio during production, he may not have any desire to return to the franchise. For now, DC is moving forward with a less centralized model, focusing on independent films like The Batman and The Flash.

Because of all the mystique and excitement that’s surrounded Zack Snyder’s Justice League, a proper physical release presents a great opportunity to package together a lot of behind-the-scenes extras. Snyder has talked at length about his plans for future movies, scenes that were cut from his final version of the film, and the process of restoring the original story. Warner Bros. might be hesitant to include a few of those things on their own physical release, but hopefully the Snyder Cut Blu-ray will still have plenty of fun bonuses for diehard fans. Zack Snyder’s Justice League releases on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on September 7.
