Colorist Stefan Sonnenfeld revealed that Zack Snyder’s Justice League is “almost done” ahead of its Nov. 17 release. The director unfortunately had to leave his latest project earlier this year after being struck by family tragedy, with Joss Whedon taking the reins to complete the film. The final trailer showed off plenty of the spectacular action and visual effects that one might expect from a Snyder production.

Based on the previews, Snyder’s film certainly didn’t suffer in the cinematography department after moving from Batman v. Superman’s Larry Fong to Fabian Wagner (Game of Thrones). The film may be barely over a month away from its release, but the post-production team is still hard at work finalizing its visual aspects. Sonnenfeld, who also did color work on BvS, has now revealed that Justice League is on the verge of completion.

Check out the colorist’s announcement below, via his personal Instagram page. Sonnenfeld confirmed that the “epic film” is “almost done,” posting several photos that appear to be from the new trailer. Each member of the Justice League – as well as shots of Amy Adams as Lois Lane against a cool-looking sunset – are represented here. Like the trailer itself, the inclusion of Lois Lane and Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) is a small indication that she could be key to the Man of Steel’s return.

It’s been quite the year for Sonnenfeld, who is considered a pioneer of “digital intermediate” color processing. He used the technique to finish films like Wonder Woman and Beauty and the Beast earlier this year. He is a favorite of Snyder’s, having worked in the colorization department on 300 and Man of Steel, and is also well-known for his work on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Working with two different directors on Justice League surely presented some unique challenges to him as well.

Clearly, the visuals of Justice League are in good hands with the acclaimed Sonnenfeld working his digital intermediate magic. The shots seen in previews, especially the latest trailer, reveal a surprisingly vibrant film. This would be something of a departure from the mostly muted, grimly toned Batman v. Superman. He’s been at this since at least February when he worked with Snyder on a Batman fight scene. All that’s left is to find out if the colorist’s nearly year-long commitment to the film paid off.

As has been the case with most of Snyder’s work, he and Justice League fans have nothing to worry about with Sonnenfeld’s color grading. Cinematography has never been an issue with his films, but stories and characters have. The hope is that Whedon, who helped with rewrites, improved upon the narrative and thematic problems that made Batman v. Superman an ultimately forgettable experience. Because there’s little doubt that in terms of aesthetics, Justice League will look spectacular.
