The Justice League should have recruited Nubia as their Wonder Woman. Despite being included in DC's Future State event, Nubia has been surprisingly absent from comics lately. However, she has more than earned her right to be at the table with DC's other heroes.

Nubia was introduced back in 1973 in the pages of Wonder Woman #204. She is the sister of Diana - the main Wonder Woman in DC's universe. She received her own graphic novel, Nubia: Real One, in February 2021 and was featured in Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman #1 #2.

Lately, DC Comics has been shaking up a few things, but one thing they haven't done is change up Wonder Woman. Diana is still the main focus of the current, ongoing Wonder Woman series and Nubia has yet to make any appearances in any other series since Future State. So what happens with Nubia, who was crowned Queen of the Amazons? She has been around long enough to stake a claim to the Wonder Woman tiara and joining the Justice League would have been the perfect venue to do that.

The Justice League recently recruited Wonder Woman's mother, Hippolyta. Future State: Wonder Woman put the focus entirely on Yara Flor - a Brazilian Amazon - destined to be the future Wonder Woman. Yara Flor has been especially well-received, but there could still be some time before the events of Future State come to pass - if they do. There is more than enough room for multiple Wonder Women, potentially for a Wonder Family. The Bat-Family already exists and Superman has his son Jon Kent sporting the mantle alongside him. There is no reason why Nubia couldn't have been the Justice League's new Wonder Woman, especially with Diana being trapped in Valhalla. However, there is still a chance that this could happen.

The potential future set up by Future State has yet to come to pass and a lot can happen to DC's Wonder Women between now and then. The timelines of Diana, Yara, and Nubia within the event weren't clear, so Nubia could still pop up in the near future. As it stands, Hippolyta has been recruited by the Justice League, but she hasn't seen eye to eye with teammate Black Adam. If they have a falling out, or Black Adam proves to be unfit for the Justice League, there could be an opening for a new Wonder Woman on the team. Furthermore, Green Arrow has suggested listening to new opinions and since Hippolyta has been on the team before, it would make sense to truly get some fresh faces and new outlooks.

In the two stories she was featured in within Future State, Nubia proved that she was more than worthy of wearing the crown of Wonder Woman. She was fierce and strong with seemingly a lot more story to tell. Passing on recruiting Nubia in favor of Hippolyta is definitely something the Justice League shouldn't have done. This is particularly true since the ongoing Wonder Woman series has seen the hero choose to forego the famous title, instead going only by Diana. With this being the case, it would have been the perfect time for Nubia to take the reins and wear the name of Wonder woman as her own. While it is not too late, the Justice League missed a major opportunity by not asking Nubia to be their Wonder Woman.
