One of the chief differences between the original Justice League and the forthcoming Snyder Cut is the orientation towards an adult demographic, this according to Zack Snyder himself. During Saturday's DC FanDome, Snyder released the trailer for his cut of the movie, which makes changes from the 2017 release he didn't see through to the end. This led to some speculation about what the differences will be between the original Justice League and the much-hyped Snyder Cut, which is coming to HBO Max in 2021.

When thinking of content that is more adult, the idea of darkness comes into play, especially when it comes to a superhero movie. For instance, 2019's Joker was much more adult than the typical comic book film and was much darker as well, even earning an R-rating. Snyder himself has had issues in the past with the darkness of his content; he had to cut a scene from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice for that very reason.

Snyder is not shying away from his chief demographic this time, though. In response to a social media comment by Forbes movie critic Scott Mendelson, Snyder took to Twitter and said his version of Justice League is "made for grownups," mocking Mendelson in the process and criticizing him for commenting on what was then a linked teaser. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, as Snyder as previously stated he wouldn't be compromising on his vision for the new release.

This can also be seen as a criticism of Justice League, which was ultimately completed by Joss Whedon after Snyder stepped away for personal reasons. For what it's worth, Justice League wasn't exactly a kids movie - it was rated PG-13 because of scenes containing violence. But it was also nominated for a couple of Kids' Choice Awards, something the new cut of the film doesn't appear to be geared towards.

Having a superhero movie directed towards grown-ups is a dangerous proposition, since kids and teens help drive box office success for superhero films. Since the Snyder Cut is already being released exclusively on a streaming service, however, that factor is likely less important to Snyder. What's important to him is getting his original vision out to the public, regardless of the form it takes. Squabbling with a critic on social media is not always the best tactic for driving publicity, but Snyder's comments should only add to the excitement ahead of the arrival of the Justice League's Snyder Cut on HBO Max.
