Zack Snyder's Justice League may be longer than initially reported. Earlier this year, it was officially announced the Snyder Cut would premiere on HBO Max next year, marking the ultimate victory for the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign. Much has already been said about how Justice League's theatrical version infamously significantly altered Snyder's original plan for the film, so viewers are excited to see the director finally get a chance to realize his vision. In addition, it's also a boost for HBO Max, giving the new streaming service a high-profile original to draw subscribers.

Even those with a passing knowledge of Justice League's development knows the Snyder Cut is a completely different film from what was released back in 2017. One of the key contrasts between the two is the runtime. Warner Bros. mandated Justice League's theatrical cut be two hours, but the Snyder Cut is said to be 214 minutes, which is 3.5 hours. And now that Snyder is hard at work putting the project together, there's a chance the Snyder Cut could be even longer than that.

In an interview with Beyond the Trailer, Snyder touched on Justice League's runtime and hinted there will be quite a bit of content for viewers to dissect. He didn't state an exact runtime, but his Justice League is definitely not going to be short:

"I have famously advertised the runtime at 214 minutes... now in its current state, it's gonna end up being longer than that. Exciting to bring all this new material to the fans that get to see all this crazy and awesome new sequences. And I think that's gonna be really exciting for everyone."

Zack Snyders Justice League Official HBO Max

Right now, it's unknown if Zack Snyder's Justice League will be presented as a single feature film or a TV miniseries consisting of multiple episodes. Snyder's pitch to HBO Max consisted of cliffhangers, so it would appear he is leaning towards the latter. If that's the direction Justice League takes, it wouldn't be surprising to see it run longer than the aforementioned 3.5 hours. Not only is the Snyder Cut continuing the story from Batman v Superman, it's also positioned as a one-and-done conclusion to Snyder's DC story. That means it could have a lot on its plate as it looks to wrap up character arcs in a satisfying manner. Giving Snyder more space to flesh out threads could help Justice League land with the intended impact. It would be a shame if after all this time, the Snyder Cut came up short.

Regardless of what form the Snyder Cut takes, this illustrates the advantages of releasing it through HBO Max. Because it's coming out on a streaming service, the runtime isn't a primary concern like it would be for a traditional theatrical release (the longer a movie is, the fewer times it can be shown throughout a single day). That should be very beneficial for Snyder, since it will allow him the freedom to make the Justice League movie he wanted without any compromises. After all he went through during the first Justice League process, that's something Snyder will greatly appreciate.
