The first look at Knightmare Batman has been revealed in a new image from Zack Snyder's Justice League. After departing the production of Justice League midway through in 2017, director Zack Snyder was replaced by Joss Whedon, who changed much of what Snyder had in store for his DC team-up flick. Ever since, passionate Snyder fans have campaigned for the director's original Justice League to be released in some form. All their hard work paid off last year, when news broke the Snyder Cut will debut on HBO Max. Recently, Snyder confirmed Justice League will premiere in March, less than a year after the official announcement.

Even those who saw the theatrical Justice League won't be prepared for the Snyder Cut, as it will be drastically different from what came before. From the storyline to characters involved, Snyder had a very different vision in mind for Justice League. For example, his cut will finally pick up on a thread he began in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: The Knightmare timeline. This dystopian future imagines a world where big bad Darkseid (Ray Porter) succeeds in taking over the earth, and Superman (Henry Cavill) becomes a tyrant after the death of Lois Lane (Amy Adams). Meanwhile, Batman (Ben Affleck) does what he can to fight back.

Snyder has continuously shared teases from his Justice League, whether they be through images or story hints. The latest is the former. Yesterday, Snyder posted a picture of the Knightmare Batman on his Vero account. Though Batman is facing away from the camera, his long coat indicates he's in this alternate, dark timeline. Check it out down below.

Zack Snyder Justice League Knightmare Batman post

Snyder had big plans for the Knightmare timeline, but Whedon's Justice League essentially avoided it entirely. Fans are eager to see how the Snyder Cut will handle the Knightmare world, since it looks like it will finally make good on Batman v Superman's setup. As Justice League will be 4 hours long, there's plenty of time to do some decent exploration of Knightmare. At the very least, it will get more attention than it had in the previous cut.

Beyond a greater focus on Knightmare, the Snyder Cut will differentiate itself from what came before by including new characters like the aforementioned Darkseid and, most surprisingly, the Joker (Jared Leto). From an outsider's perspective, one must wonder how everything will actually come together. Snyder has a roadmap for his Justice League, and surely it will all fit once it plays out like a typical movie. Fans only have to wait another month before it all becomes clear.
