Justice League stuntman Erol Ismail reveals why Warner Bros. decided to cut the Atlanteans vs Parademons fight. It's no secret that much has changed between what was originally filmed for the film and what ended up on the big screen after director Zack Snyder left the project. That includes a few supposed key scenes that were already filmed like one which featured a massive battle between the Atlantis military and Steppenwolf's minions for the Mother Box.

Snyder actually finished principal photography for Justice League when he had to step away from the film due to a personal tragedy. This paved the way for interim director Joss Whedon to come in and finish the movie, however, instead of simply picking up where his predecessor left off, he made significant changes to the story. That meant altering a lot of scenes, while cutting some totally from Justice League's theatrical cut, resulting in a watered-down version of what Snyder wanted for the movie. Over the last couple of years, details about those scrapped scenes have been popping out on the internet, the latest of which reveals Warner Bros. involvement in its removal.

Ismail (via The Zack Snyder Bible) was asked on Instagram what happened to the scenes that he and his other fellow Justice League stuntmen filmed in Iceland and he indulged by providing a short answer. It turns out, Warner Bros. asked for it to be cut from the film because it was deemed too dark. When pressed for specific details about it, however, he refused, saying he's still under NDA.

Since Ismail didn't reveal any more information regarding the cut scene, it's difficult to gauge how it would be deemed too dark for Justice League, although it's safe to say that the sequence will be somewhat similar to the Amazonians' fight for their Mother Box. It's worth noting that since Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was also criticized for the same thing, Warner Bros. has actively mandated that succeeding films have a lighter tone. This is also what happened to Suicide Squad; while the film didn't go through a director switch, David Ayer was forced to do last-minute reshoots to lighten up the film — the filmmaker himself opened up about this, saying his "soulful drama" was forced to become a "comedy" like Deadpool.

Fortunately, with Snyder's four-part Justice League coming to HBO Max next year, this cut scene will finally see the light of day, as well as, all the scrapped sequences from principal photography. Not only that, there will be additional ones too since the project is reportedly getting $70 million to create new material. Depending on how Snyder uses this alleged allocated budget, he can create something really special for fans who have been championing his cut since the beginning.
