Justice League Metacritic Score Higher Than BvS

Justice League's current Metacritic score is higher than Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. After the film's big Los Angeles premiere Monday night, reviews from those who were lucky to be invited to early screenings have started to come in. And while Rotten Tomatoes has decided to hold off the release of their occasionally controversial score, other film grading sites are upfront about their composite scores including film review aggregator, Metacritic.

All eyes are on Warner Bros.' latest project, as it solidifies DC Films' attempt at creating their own interconnected film saga by bringing together DC's biggest heroes into one big screen offering. The new team spearheaded by Batman on the assumption that Superman is already dead, includes Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg. Together, they are gearing for an all-out war against supervillain Steppenwolf who is on his way to Earth in search for the powerful motherboxes with his army of Parademons in tow.

Originally having a Metascore of 40, the rate increased over time to 51 as more and more critics key in their reviews. Thus far, the aggregated score is from 25 reviews with the majority of the movie press having mixed feelings about the movie. Of these, nine are positive, 13 are mixed, and three are negative. Among the high points for the project is how it effectively was able to bring together all these superheroes on one action and fun-packed film, giving each of them a time to shine. The great chemistry among the cast translating well on the big screen is also cited. All in all, despite having glaring flaws with its narrative and a weak villain, Justice League is heralded as step-up from other divisive offerings from the DC franchise including last year's Dawn of Justice, which currently has a score of 44. Box opening tracking, however, Dawn of Justice still tops the upcoming ensemble flick as Justice League is projected to pocket as much $355 million worldwide -- a long shot from Dawn of Justice's $420 million.

Of course, chances are that the current rate will still change as more review are published, but given where the film stands, Warners/DC Films should be relieved knowing that their biggest undertaking to date is generating better buzz compared to their previous offerings, save for Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman. Making it more special is the fact that the project was marred by a slew of controversies and setbacks that folks behind the project obviously powered their way through. Most importantly, the score, despite not really the best way to judge a film, is a good indication that the film studio is learning their lessons and righting their wrongs in order to better their films down the line.

It would be interesting what Justice League's Rotten Tomato score is, once they finally release it on their newly launched Facebook show called See It/Skip It, hosted by Jacqueline Coley and Segun Oduolowu. It is not a secret that DC fans and the website have not had the best of relationships with the former theorizing that the latter is biased against the budding franchise. At one point, there was even a fan-driven campaign to shut down the review aggregating site but that obviously did not materialize.

In the end, these are nothing but scores and it is important to remember that most of the time, they fail to encapsulate people's full review of any movie. While they could be helpful in terms of being a general guideline when seeing a flick, especially for those that get extreme high and low scores, it should never influence your opinion of a film. If you want to see something, just go to your local cinema, enjoy it and have your own thoughts about it.
