While Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League holds many treats within it for fans, Jared Leto's Joker return is emerging as an unlikely main attraction. To call Leto's Joker divisive would be a massive understatement. When Leto was first cast as The Joker, many wondered if he would bring a Heath Ledger-esque vibe to the role, as both were regarded as somewhat method actors. What fans ended up getting was about a 180 degree change from Ledger's Oscar-winning prior version.
As many have pointed out in the years since Suicide Squad's release, Leto's Joker is in some ways the Hot Topic edgy version of the character, sporting tight clothes, slicked back hair, jewelry, and tattoos. Lots and lots of tattoos, some of which are far from visually appealing. To be fair, Joker's appearance can't really be put on Leto, as it's not like he had the final say in that department. What can be put on Leto is his Joker's infamously awful laugh.
However, it's been four years now since Leto's Joker appeared onscreen, and those that did enjoy his rendition are eager to get another taste. At the same time, his detractors are curious if Snyder will portray the character better. Either way, the Joker is, pun intended, a hot topic.
Justice League: Why Jared Leto's Joker Is Important To Snyder's Cut
Of all the confirmed aspects of Zack Snyder's Justice League cut, the one drawing the most attention on social media as of late is the return of Jared Leto's Joker. While that might seem odd, there's a few logical reasons for it. For one, he's an entirely new addition to the film, having played no part in the Joss Whedon cut of Justice League. Another factor is that, disputed rendition or not, The Joker as a character is and will seemingly always be a big deal, and adding the Clown Prince of Crime to any DC movie automatically makes it a more high profile project.
On top of that, it's well-known that fans never got to experience the entirety of what Leto and director David Ayer intended for their version of Joker, as much of Leto's material was cut from the final edit thanks to lots of studio meddling. While it remains to be seen if an Ayer cut of Suicide Squad will ever be released, there's a chance Snyder's take on Leto's Joker could incorporate some of the things removed previously, or otherwise improve his overall characterization. Finally, there's a certain intrigue among DC fans concerning Joker in Justice League due to the fact that Leto's version just doesn't seem to logically fit with Snyder's plans for the film. He's a wildcard, and that's exciting, even to those not in love with Leto's portrayal in Suicide Squad.
