Justice League Extended Cut May Come To Blu-ray

Warner Bros. is contemplating releasing a Justice League extended cut on Blu-Ray/DVD, but it won't be the Zack Snyder cut that people want.

Warner Bros. may actually release a Justice League extended cut on Blu-Ray/DVD, but it's not the Zack Snyder cut that people are hoping for. The studio finally launched their DC Comics-based universe (unofficially known as the DCEU) with Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 - a follow-up to the filmmaker's 2013 film, Man of Steel - and they continued expanding upon the newly-formed universe with Snyder's 2017 film, Justice League.

Justice League united the world's finest heroes - Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) - for the first time ever on the big screen. Unfortunately, the movie suffered numerous behind the scenes issues and that led to a haphazard final cut that leaves much to be desired. What's more, several scenes that were showcased in the film's trailers and promos were nowhere to be found, thus leading to fans demanding an extended cut on home video - and it looks like it's actually going to happen.

Film reporter Mario F. Robles says on Twitter that Warner Bros. is contemplating an extended cut of Justice League to be packaged along with Man of Steel and Batman V Superman as part of Snyder's Superman trilogy. However, Robles notes that this extended cut is NOT the Snyder cut that fans have been petitioning for, but rather an extended version of the Joss Whedon-edited theatrical cut.

For the home release of #JusticeLeague, WB is mulling over packaging it as a #Superman Trilogy, alongside MOS and BvS. And here's the kicker:

It would include an Extended Cut of JL.

Snyder very publicly exited Justice League earlier this year to cope with a personal tragedy, thereby leaving the reins of the superhero team-up movie to former Avengers director Joss Whedon. Whedon helmed the movie's reshoots throughout the summer and oversaw editing on the final cut that ended up in theaters, but that version removed many of Snyder's scenes and gave audiences something tonally different than what they expected from a Snyder movie. And that's why hundreds of thousands of people have been petitioning the studio to release an extended cut containing Snyder's scenes - but that's simply not possible.

Still, Warner Bros. appears to have heard fans' outcries and is looking into potentially adding in the scenes that were cut from Whedon's version. Unfortunately, the Justice League extended cut may not be enough to redeem the film. Justice League certainly had its ups and downs, but it turned out to be an overwhelming critical and commercial failure, with analysts not expecting the film to top Man of Steel's box office, thus making Justice League the lowest-grossing DC movie since Batman Begins, domestically that is.
