DC's Justice League Dark team is in good hands with J.J. Abrams and his production company, Bad Robot, who have together produced movies from some massive franchises. It was recently reported that discussions were taking place regarding a deal that would put Bad Robot in charge of overseeing movies and TV shows related to DC's Justice League Dark property. The discussions surrounding Justice League Dark stems from Bad Robot's recent deal with WarnerMedia, that's estimated to be worth $500 million. It's not clear which characters in particular DC or Bad Robot are looking at, or if J.J. Abrams himself is expected to be involved as a director in any of the projects.

In DC Comics, Justice League Dark is a team that consists of DC's supernatural and mystical characters, such as Zatanna, John Constantine, Swamp Thing, and Deadman. Back in 2012, it was reported that Guillermo del Toro was to direct the project. For a while, that remained the plan, and a script was even completed, but by 2015 del Toro was no longer attached to the movie. After it was officially titled Justice League Dark at SDCC 2017, it appeared that DC had yet to give up on the film, but a lack of news in recent years has called that into question.

The report about Bad Robot's involvement with Justice League Dark is positive turn of events for more than one reason. Not only is the Justice League Dark team about to be represented in both movies and TV, but they'll be under the direction of J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot. Not only have they made successful movies on major IPs, like Star Trek, Star Wars, and Mission Impossible, but they also have a good history of taking under-the-radar genre films and adapting them into a successful franchise. This is exactly what Bad Robot was able to do with Cloverfield, which started as just a single film that expanded into a trilogy of films, with each installment being inherently different from each other.

Abrams and Bad Robot's involvement with producing big hit shows like Fringe and Lost were early indications of Abrams' ability to expertly weave mystery into his projects with science fiction and supernatural elements. There's also Overlord, a film that brought zombies into a World War II setting, which was well-received by critics. Over the years, Abrams has demonstrated an aptitude when it comes to delivering a satisfying and unique experience when it comes to horror, science fiction, and mystery.

These are qualities that Justice League Dark movies and TV shows will need. These characters aren't the standard Justice League or the Avengers. Members of Justice League Dark can't be characters as your typical, run-of-the-mill superheroes. Rather, they're steeped in elements of horror, mystery, and the supernatural, so a film about Deadman, for instance, would take DC away from the mainstream superhero genre, and if this is indeed the plan DC has in mind for its Justice League Dark projects, Abrams and Bad Robot may be the perfect fit.
