It has been confirmed that the archery skills of Green Arrow are superhuman, placing him on par with the immortal Amazons, who have had thousands of years to hone their skills with the bow. This astonishing assessment came from the Amazon Queen Nubia, lending further credence to the idea that Oliver Queen is the greatest archer in the DC Universe. More, the prowess of the Emerald Archer is apparently so well-known and well-respected that even the Amazons on the secluded island of Themyscira tell stories about him.
The details of Oliver Queen's history have changed repeatedly over the years, but most of his origins had him discover a natural affinity for archery while shipwrecked. This makes his rise to fame as a master marksman all the more impressive, as it typically takes years of training for an archer to master the craft, particularly with the longbow that is Oliver Queen's weapon of choice. This makes it all the more impressive in Nubia and the Justice League Special #1, when Queen Nubia comments that the former Amazon Queen Hippolyta "once told me Oliver was the finest archer she'd ever fought beside."
The action of Nubia and the Justice League Special #1 from Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad, Amancay Nahuelpan, Tamra Bonvillain, and Pat Brosseau gives Queen Nubia a chance to see Oliver Queen in action first hand. The two heroes go into battle alongside Black Canary, against the Batman villain Firefly. They make short work of the pyromaniac villain, and Nubia muses that "Hippolyta was correct about the archer."
The Amazons Tell Stories About Green Arrow's Archery Skill
Once the battle is over, Queen Nubia is quick to pay her complements to her comrades. Her praise of Green Arrow is particularly noteworthy, however, given the importance of archery in the Amazon culture. Ignoring that every Amazon possesses Olympian strength, speed, stamina and senses, they are also effectively immortal, and every Amazon has had thousands of years to master the arts of war. This makes Nubia's acknowledgment that Green Arrow is the best archer on Earth and the admission that the Amazons tell stories about Green Arrow's heroism all the more amazing, suggesting there is something superhuman about Oliver Queen.
It should be noted that most Green Arrow writers have rejected the idea that Oliver Queen is a metahuman. On the whole, there has never been any substantive suggestion that Oliver Queen's skill with the bow is the result of anything other than hard work and determination. In any case, it seems certain that Oliver Queen has earned the title of the World's Finest archer.
