With the release of the Snyder Cut, many fans are likely wondering where they can see Justice League's stars appear in movies going forward. As much as the theatrical Joss Whedon cut of Justice League proved unpopular, it's safe to say that its biggest strength came via its cast of performers. They did the best they could with the rewrites that were made after Zack Snyder left the project, and if the 2017 version has any big saving grace, it's the interplay between the heroes.
The acting might of the Justice League cast was truly shown off in the Snyder Cut, which gives them all much more to work with and further develops their characters. The Snyder Cut may not be universally beloved, but there's a reason almost no one says it's not at least a big improvement on the prior release. It tells the same basic story, but with fewer out-of-place jokes, higher dramatic stakes, and much more reason to care about characters like Cyborg and Silas Stone, who are both given little to do in the theatrical cut of Justice League.
While it remains to be seen if fan pressure from Snyder's devotees will be enough to change DC's mind about restoring the Snyderverse in the DCEU, all the talented actors making up the Justice League cast have future movie projects on their plate. Here's the full rundown.
Ben Affleck (Batman)
Ben Affleck, Zack Snyder's gritty version of the Caped Crusader in Justice League, has a whopping eight upcoming movies in the works. First up, Affleck plays King Charles VI in Ridley Scott's historical drama The Last Duel, set for release on October 15, 2021. January 14, 2022, will finally see the release of Adrian Lyne's Coronavirus-delayed thriller Deep Water, with Affleck playing one half of a married couple with a rather unusual arrangement.
Memoir adaptation The Tender Bar, currently in production, will see Ben Affleck play Charlie, uncle to the young focal character. Affleck will return as Batman/Bruce Wayne in The Flash, speeding into theaters on November 4, 2022. Affleck's next directorial project will be the World War II-set Ghost Army, and he's also attached to direct an adaptation of Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution. Finally, Affleck is set to star in a sequel to 2016's The Accountant, and Robert Rodriguez's detective thriller Hypnotic.
Henry Cavill (Superman)
In contrast to Affleck, Henry Cavill doesn't have all that much on his upcoming plate that's been announced, but that's likely due to his commitments as Geralt on Netflix's ongoing The Witcher TV show. It's confirmed that he'll be part of the star-studded voice cast of the video game Squadron 42, which has yet to be assigned a release date. Additionally, it was reported last year that Cavill had signed on to return as Superman in a future DC movie, and a sequel to the Netflix movie Enola Holmes has also been rumored.
Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman)
Gal Gadot's next movie after playing Wonder Woman in the Snyder Cut is set to come on February 11, 2022 with the long-delayed Agatha Christie adaptation Death on the Nile (a sequel to 2017's Murder on the Orient Express), in which she plays Linnet Ridgeway Doyle. She'll also star alongside Ryan Reynolds and The Rock in the international spy thriller Red Notice. Coming in 2023 is Irena Sendler, a biopic starring Gadot as a real-life Polish nurse and social worker that played a key role in resisting the Nazi occupation during World War II. Gadot is also set to play Hollywood legend and genius inventor Hedy Lamarr in a miniseries, is attached to a spy thriller called Heart of Stone, and will reunite with Patty Jenkins for a new Cleopatra movie and Wonder Woman 3.
Jason Momoa (Aquaman)
On October 1, 2021, audiences will see Jason Momoa play Duncan Idaho in director Denis Villeneuve's new adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune. He's then set to co-star as Big Jim in The Last Manhunt, a story set in the old west that Momoa himself co-wrote. Momoa will get back into action mode for Sweet Girl, in which he plays a widower trying to both go after his wife's killers and make sure his daughter remains safe. Momoa is also attached to star in Slumberland, Netflix's adapation of the Little Nemo in Slumberland comic books. Finally, Momoa returns as Arthur Curry for Aquaman 2 on December 16, 2022, will voice Frosty the Snowman in a live-action movie, and has been rumored to play the lead in a remake of Cliffhanger.
Ezra Miller (The Flash)
After running fast enough to save the world from Darkseid in Justice League, Ezra Miller is set to reprise his role of Credence Barebone in Fantastic Beasts 3, set for release on July 15, 2022. That will be a big year for Miller, as he also stars in The Flash solo movie on November 4. Miller will also play a young Salvador Dalí in the biopic Dali Land.
Ray Fisher (Cyborg)
The improvement of Cyborg's characterization in the Snyder Cut of Justice League was immense and offered Ray Fisher a chance to really show off his dramatic chops. Fisher actually doesn't have any movies lined up at the moment, which is a shame, but he is set to be a regular on the ABC limited historical drama series Women of the Movement, which centers on Mamie Till-Mobley, the mother of Emmett Till, a Black teenager who was lynched in 1955 Mississippi, becoming a posthumous symbol for the civil rights movement. Fisher plays Mamie's husband Gene.
Amy Adams (Lois Lane)
Amy Adams' Lois Lane may be the key to a plot Zack Snyder never gets to resolve, but Adams has several other projects coming up. Her long-delayed agoraphobic thriller The Woman in the Window will finally be released on May 14, 2021. Adams is also among the star-studded cast of September 24, 2021's Dear Evan Hansen, an adaptation of a hit Broadway musical. She'll star in and executive produce the Netflix miniseries Kings of America, centered on three powerful women tied to the Wal-Mart corporation. She's also been attached for some time to Disenchanted, a sequel to Enchanted, but that keeps stopping and starting.
Ciaran Hinds (Steppenwolf)
After Steppenwolf's redemption as a character in the Snyder Cut, at least compared to his woeful portrayal in the prior version of Justice League, Ciaran Hinds is next on his way to Belfast, a drama directed by Kenneth Branagh that centers on a working class family in the 1960s. Belfast releases on November 12, 2021. Hinds is also attached to play a major role in Cottontail, a drama about a Japanese widower who flies to England's Lake District to fulfill his wife's last wish, that her ashes be scattered in the homeland of writer Beatrix Potter.
Amber Heard (Mera)
Amber Heard, who played a now British-accented Mera in the Snyder Cut of Justice League, isn't attached to much that's been announced at the moment, although she did recently play Randall Flagg's bride Nadine Cross in CBS All Access' adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand. She is at least set to reprise the role of Mera in 2022's Aquaman 2, a sequel likely to see her drop the accent, since it won't treat the Snyder Cut as canon.
Jared Leto (The Joker)
It remains to be seen if Jared Leto will ever play The Joker again in the DCEU after Justice League's Snyder Cut, as he was famously unhappy with Warner Bros. cutting so much of his material out of Suicide Squad. However, Leto will jump from DC to Marvel, or at least Sony's Marvel universe, when he plays the titular living vampire in Morbius on January 21, 2022. He's also playing Paolo Gucci in Ridley Scott's much-discussed reality-based drama House of Gucci, which releases on November 24, 2021. Finally, Leto is attached to star in the sea-set horror movie Adrift, directed by Darren Aronofsky.
