Universal Pictures has released a short film set one year after the ending of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Titled Battle at Big Rock and directed by Colin Trevorrow (who also directed Jurassic World), the short stars Natalie Martinez and André Holland as a couple who take their kids on a would-be relaxing camping trip in Big Rock National Park.

Unfortunately their evening is interrupted by the arrival of some of the dinosaurs that were released into the wild at the end of Fallen Kingdom, forcing them into a fight for their lives. Battle at Big Rock establishes the new status quo that fans can expect to see in the upcoming sequel Jurassic World 3, in which humans will have to figure out how to co-exist with dinosaurs - or die trying. In addition to the dinosaurs stolen from Isla Nublar running wild, the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom also saw captured dinosaurs ending up in the hands of wealthy criminals from around the world, who now have the technology to create cloned dinosaurs of their own.

Battle at Big Rock premiered on FX on Sunday, September 15, and was made available online after its TV debut. In addition to starring Martinez and Holland, the short also introduces young newcomers Melody Hurd and Pierson Salvador as their two kids. Check out Battle at Big Rock below:

Trevorrow, who is returning to direct Jurassic World 3 after J.A. Bayona helmed Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, has said that the movie won't exactly be about humans going to war with dinosaurs. Instead, he explained, they will simply be a new and terrifying breed of wild animal - one that doesn't go rampaging through cities, but might invade campgrounds or run out in front of your car at night. "We hunt animals, we traffic them, we herd them, we breed them, we invade their territory and pay the price," Trevorrow explained. "But we don’t go to war with them. If that was the case, we’d have lost that war a long time ago."

The world we see during the credits for Battle at Big Rock is the world described by Trevorrow - where people might be able to take in the site of a peaceful herbivore eating leaves by a riverside, or might end up careening off the road because of a crossing dinosaur. It's certainly a tantalizing tease for the next chapter of the Jurassic World story, but after many fans found Fallen Kingdom to be disappointing, it remains to be seen how well this promising idea will be executed in a feature length film.
