A recently filed trademark hints at a brand-new Jurassic World game being in the works. The blockbuster Jurassic Park movie franchise has spawned countless video games over the past couple of decades, ranging from forgotten gems like 1993’s Jurassic Park on the SNES to modern dinosaur-wrangling sims like 2018’s Jurassic World Evolution.
Most recently, a new Jurassic World game is set to arrive later this year in the form of Jurassic World Evolution 2, which was announced at June’s Summer Games Fest Kickoff livestream by Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom star Jeff Goldblum. Expanding upon what players enjoyed about the last Jurassic World Evolution game, this upcoming sequel adds new dinosaurs to the mix along with helicopter rides and the ability to track down prehistoric beasts in their natural habitat. Additionally, Coatsink Software recently announced Jurassic World Aftermath Part 2, a VR title that tasks players with roaming the cel-shaded landscape of Isla Nublar two years after the events of 2015’s Jurassic World, solving puzzles and trying to avoid becoming a snack for the many carnivores on the loose.
According to PCGamesN, these might not be the only Jurassic World video games fans can look forward to. Universal/Universal City Studios LLC filed a trademark for the title “Jurassic World: Primal Ops” on August 26, as documented by the copyright search engine website Trademarkia. This patent is listed under Computer & Software Products, and while the description frequently mentions the word “mobile,” terms like “computer game software” and “video game consoles” are included as well. Physical discs are also referenced, signifying that Jurassic World: Primal Ops might not just be a simple mobile app like so many recent Jurassic World games.
As players wait for the next officially licensed Jurassic World interactive adventure, other dino-centric games are stepping in to fill the void. June’s E3 2021 served as the debut for Instinction, an upcoming survival horror/first-person shooter hybrid that many are comparing to 1998's Jurassic Park: Trespasser. Meanwhile, Polish indie developer Yeyuna unveiled Jurassic Architecture last week, which tasks players with building a new human civilization on prehistoric Earth - as well as taming wild dinosaurs for either transport or entertainment purposes.
The trademark for Jurassic World: Primal Ops was only filed last week, so very little is yet known about what this new game even is. The title itself seems to imply some sort of military/tactical gameplay, but it is anyone's guess what Primal Ops could entail at this early stage in its development. Regardless, it looks like Jurassic World fans have yet another new video game to look forward to after Jurassic World Evolution 2 hits stores later this year.
