'Jurassic World': 7 New Dinosaurs Revealed in Official Artwork

Jurassic World (Most Anticipated Movie of 2015)

Director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) has some big shoes to fill when he tries to re-open the world of modern day Dinosaurs that Steven Spielberg first brought to the big screen in 1993 with Jurassic ParkBut Jurassic World looks like it has at least the potential to stand on its own clawed feet, with early trailers and other promotional items for the film hinting at new wonders and freaky threats in store for filmgoers.

In recent weeks, film fans have gotten a better look at Jurassic World thanks to merchandising items like Hasbro toy lines, which revealed the design of the deadly new "hybrid dinosaur," Indominus Rex, or the group of raptors that Chris Pratt's character, Owen Grady, trains to be his hunting pack. Today we have new official artwork from the film, which reveals the look and design of seven new dinosaurs we'll see in the fully-functional Jurassic World theme park.

From the official Jurassic World website, here are a few new dinos - CLICK any pic for a more in-depth description:

Jurassic World Dinosaurs - Metria
Metriacanthosaurus
Jurassic World Dinosaurs - Edmont
Edmontosaurus
Jurassic World Dinosaurs - Dimorph
Dimorphodon
Jurassic World Dinosaurs - Baryonyx
Baryonyx
Jurassic World Dinosaurs - Ptetro
Pteranodon
Jurassic World Dinosaurs - Sucho
Suchomimus
Jurassic World Dinosaurs - Micro
Microceratus

The artwork here gives us look at some truly interesting dinosaurs - though, so far, the trailers and additional footage for Jurassic World that we've seen hasn't exactly impressed fans in the same way that Steven Spielberg's film did.

Spielberg pushed the boundaries of film technology of the '90s, using a combination of animatronics, costumes and CGI to create the film's iconic sequences of dino mayhem. Jurassic World obviously has a whole new level of film technology behind it, but like so many films of today, that does not guarantee that it will provide a better experience for viewers. Chris Pratt riding a motorcycle through a jungle, with a pack of raptors following him, just doesn't play believably - no matter how much VFX rendering you do.

Looking at Suchominus, Baryonyx and Metriacanthosaurus, it's interesting to think that those predators could be so outclassed by something like the hybrid Indominus Rex. The presence of that hybrid (no matter how hokey in premise) really does add a sort of advanced horror movie slasher element to the movie. I'm game for that. You?
