A new YouTube series will take fans of the Jurassic Park franchise behind the scenes of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in the weeks leading up to the film's release. Titled Jurassic Journals, the series will be hosted by Chris Pratt, as he interviews other actors and crew members about their experiences working on the movie.

Set four years after the events of Jurassic World, the titular theme park has fallen into disrepair and the island of Isla Nublar has been taken over by the dinosaurs as Fallen Kingdom opens. When a volcanic eruption threatens all life on the island, raptor trainer Owen (Chris Pratt) and former park manager Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) are recruited to rescue as many of the dinosaurs as possible. The two wind up discovering a conspiracy that could inadvertently end humanity's time as the dominant species on Earth.

Universal Pictures has released the first two episodes of Jurassic Journals (which can be viewed below) on their official YouTube channel. The first two episodes see Chris Pratt interviewing actors Daniella Pineda and Justice Smith, as well as make-up artist Vivian Baker.

The first video sees Pratt and his fellow actors discussing their memories of the first Jurassic Park movie and when and how they first saw it. Unsurprisingly, Pratt's memories are far different from those of his younger co-stars, for whom the movie was a classic their parents revealed to them. For Pratt, who was a teenager when Jurassic Park came out, the movie was a major summer event that he eagerly anticipated for months before it was released.

The second video is far more technically minded, going into the details of the make-up artist's craft. This video reveals that all the accumulated dirt and mud on Chris Pratt's face as the movie progresses is artfully painted make-up and not real earth. Apart from being more sanitary than real dirt and mud, the make-up has the advantage of being water-proof and sweat-resistant. This is vitally important in terms of continuity, as real dirt and mud would wash off as the actor perspired, leading to clear differences between the different shooting takes.

Hopefully, the future chapters of Jurassic Journals will focus more on the craft that went into making Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and less on the actors' remembrances of the older films in the franchise. While some might be curious what it was like for Daniella Pineda to meet Jeff Goldblum, it seems likely that devout Jurassic Park fans will be more interested in the practical and special effects behind the film as well the stunt work. Future episodes will be released every Thursday until the film's release date on June 22.
