Warning: SPOILERS for Jurassic World: Dominion

A massive showdown between the T-rex and the Gigantosaurus is the culmination of Jurassic World Dominion's finale and the dino fight is actually a rematch 65-million years in the making. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic World Dominion reunites the three heroes from Jurassic Park, Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), and teams them up with Jurassic World's good guys, Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), and Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon). Meanwhile, the original T-rex from Jurassic Park is also back, having been transplanted to BioSyn's sanctuary in Italy's Dolomite Mountains.

Jurassic World Dominion's prologue (which was released in 2021 but isn't part of the actual film) explained the ancient history between the T-rex and the Gigantosaurus. 65-million years ago during the Cretaceous age, a Gigantosaurus encountered a Tyrannosaurus Rex. The two massive apex predators fought and the larger and more powerful Gigantosaurus killed the T-rex. A fly then fed on the blood of the dead carnivore and was then caught in tree sap, which preserved it in amber. It was this very fly containing the blood of the dead T-rex that InGen scientists found and extracted the dinosaur's DNA from when John Hammond's (Richard Attenborough) genetics company began cloning dinosaurs. Therefore, the T-rex in Jurassic Park that survived into Jurassic World Dominion is the clone of the same T-rex the Gigantosaurus killed 65-million years ago. After Jurassic Park, the T-rex wasn't seen again until Jurassic World in 2015. The next two Jurassic movies, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III, were set on Isla Sorna AKA Site B and both featured different T-rexes genetically engineered by InGen.

Claire Dearing set the original T-rex loose to fight the Indominus Rex in Jurassic World. Afterward, the T-rex continued to live on Isla Nublar and she ran afoul of the teenage survivors of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. The T-rex was among the many dinos rescued from Isla Nublar before the island was destroyed by a volcanic eruption in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and it was let loose into the wild by Maisie Lockwood at the end of that film. In Jurassic World Dominion, the T-rex was captured off-screen after it terrorized the Pacific Northwest, including attacking a drive-in movie in Jurassic World Dominion's trailer. Finally, the T-rex was brought to BioSyn's dinosaur sanctuary in Italy where it was placed in the same jungle habitat as the Gigantosaurus.

How Much Stronger Is A Gigantosaurus Than A T-Rex?

Gogantosaurus T-rex Jurassic World

The Gigantosaurus is acknowledged as the largest apex predator ever recorded and it's much bigger and stronger than a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Unfortunately for T-rex, she has proven to be little match for the mighty Gigantosaurus. 65-million years ago, the Gigantosaurus easily savaged and killed the T-rex. In Jurassic World Dominion, the T-rex ran into the Giga in BioSyn's jungle dinosaur sanctuary. Owen Grady and Kayla Watts (DeWanda Wise) witnessed the T-rex steer clear of the Gigantosaurus when they searched the jungle for the missing Claire Dearing, who ejected from their plane after it was attacked and brought down by a Quetzalcoatlus.

When the Gigantosaurus fought the T-rex in Jurassic World Dominion's finale, Alan Grant correctly realized, "This isn't about us," and that the dinosaurs had a very old score to settle. Sadly but unsurprisingly, the Tyrannosaurus Rex's rematch with the Gigantosaurus in Jurassic World Dominion's finale went very similarly to their first fight 65-million years ago. It's not actually clear if the Gigantosaurus in Jurassic World Dominion happens to be a clone of the same Giga that killed the T-rex in the Cretaceous age, but regardless, the larger and more powerful Gigantosaurus made short work of the T-rex and seemingly killed her.

Why The Therizinosaurus Helps The T-Rex Fight Gigantosaurus

Jurassic Dominion Gigantosaurus

Jurassic World Dominion introduced another huge apex predator, Therizinosaurus. Reflecting recent dinosaur science that the prehistoric creatures were more like huge birds than lizards, Jurassic World Dominion properly presents Therizinosaurus as a massive feathered beast with a long beak and sword-like claws protruding from its appendages. The Therizinosaurus was first seen in the BioSyn jungle sanctuary by Claire Dearing, who was hunted by the huge, feathered predator. Claire saved herself by crawling into a lake and submerging herself to hide from Therizinosaurus. Apparently not fond of water, the Therizinosaurus gave up and stalked off but it returned in Jurassic World Dominion's finale after all of the dinosaurs were led back into BioSyn's main compound during its evacuation.

While paleo archeologists theorize that Therizinosaurus were actually herbivores, Jurassic World Dominion depicts Therizinosaurus as an apex super predator, and this explains why the feathered dinosaur got involved in the final fight between the T-rex and the Gigantosaurus. After T-rex was apparently killed, Therizinosaurus entered the fray to likely establish itself as the top predator in the confined space of BioSyn's main compound. However, the T-rex wasn't dead and it rose to join the fight against the Gigantosaurus. But it was really the Therizinosaurus, with T-rex's help, that brought down Gigantosaurus with its deadly claws. The Gigantosaurus was killed by the Therizinosaurus, which stabbed the Giga through the neck. With that, the T-rex finally got the revenge it waited 65-million years for to close out Jurassic World Dominion.
