The first trailer for Jurassic World: Dominion is a crossover with the Olympics featuring a T-Rex menacing a skier. Dominion is the third film in the Jurassic World trilogy, which followed the original Jurassic Park trilogy, which ran from 1993 to 2001, beginning with Jurassic World in 2015. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom came out three years later in 2018, and while Dominion was on track to keep that pace up, it was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, though it became one of the first major motion pictures to restart production during lockdown.

Jurassic World: Dominion will follow the consequences of dinosaurs being unleashed on mainland America, quickly spreading, potentially en route to making the entire globe their territory. The film will follow the characters from the Jurassic World branch of the story, including Chris Pratt's Owen Grady, Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire Dearing, Justice Smith's Franklin Webb, and Daniella Pineda's Dr. Zia Rodriguez, along with the return of all three major legacy characters from Jurassic Park. Jeff Goldblum, who is returning as Dr. Ian Malcolm, was previously spotted in Fallen Kingdom, but Sam Neill (Dr. Alan Grant) and Laura Dern (Dr. Ellie Sattler) will be returning for the first time since the original films.

Universal shared a one-minute video that is being ballyhooed as the first trailer for Jurassic World: Dominion. It's most likely technically not a "trailer" because it seems to be original footage that won't appear in the movie, but it's a clever cross-promotion with the Winter Olympics, which will begin airing on NBC and Peacock on February 4. The spot depicts two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and World Cup alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin being tracked by a velociraptor while going down the slope, only for them both to realize that they are both in danger when a T-Rex emerges from the forest. Universal has been making a habit of using ad spots to create unlikely crossovers lately. This habit has been made possible because of the sheer amount of intellectual property they own, along with how much they have in production at any given time. Their most memorable recent mashup before the Dominion teaser was on Halloween when they promoted both Halloween Kills and the Chucky series on SyFy by having Chucky and Michael Myers meet while carving a pumpkin.

Jurassic World: Dominion is certain to get a proper trailer soon, considering that it's one of the biggest summer releases coming this year. This weekend was certainly a good time to drop the first spot because theatrical audiences are starved for new content in the middle of a drought of major wide releases that won't be broken until early February. As Scream and Spider-Man: No Way Home continue to battle for box office dominance, Jurassic Park is merely lurking behind the scenes like a looming tyrannosaurus.
