One of the most highly anticipated releases of 2022, Jurassic World: Dominion, is yet to receive its first trailer, but can audiences expect one soon? The follow-up to 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is set to release on June 10th, 2022, and will pick up four years after the events of its predecessor. The last act of Fallen Kingdom saw the dinosaurs escape captivity and head into the civilized world, and Dominion will revolve around the aftermath of that. Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) are all set to return along with characters from both the Jurassic World series and the original Jurassic Park trilogy.

Universal Studios released a 5-minute promotional video for Dominion last November, dubbed The Prologue. The short promo did not contain any footage from the film, and instead showcased footage of the dinosaurs before they went extinct, as well as a T-Rex rampaging through a drive-in theatre. Universal is still holding on to the film's first trailer even though the film is less than 6 months away. This is very untraditional for Universal, considering that they released the first trailers for Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World almost 8 months before their respective release dates.

While The Prologue was enough to kickstart the film's marketing campaign, it wasn't an actual trailer since that footage was made specifically for marketing purposes. The most likely release date for Dominion's first real trailer is during Super Bowl 56 on February 13th. That would leave only four months until the film's release, which fits with the shorter marketing campaign trend Hollywood has adopted after the Covid-19 pandemic due to the large number of unexpected delays happening industry-wide.

The Super Bowl is one of the most sought-after release windows for movie trailers, which is to be expected given that the NFL finale is one of the most-watched events in the US and around the world. Additionally, Universal is no stranger to dropping trailers during the game, as they have managed to promote at least one of their projects at the Super Bowl for years. This wouldn't mark the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance either, since the second trailer for Fallen Kingdom was released during Super Bowl 52 in February of 2018.

There could be many reasons holding Dominion's first trailer back from dropping, but perhaps the most prominent among them is the release date uncertainty plaguing the film industry due to the ongoing pandemic. While the film is slated for June 10th, the recent Covid-19 developments could push the film back to ensure a theatrical release, which is why Universal could be avoiding a trailer that would cement that release date in the public's consciousness. The marketing for Jurassic World: Dominion is bound to kick into full gear soon, and while there is no set release date for the film's trailer yet, audiences should expect the first look sooner rather than later.
