Chris Pratt says that Jurassic World Dominion will be the final instalment of the Jurassic franchise. The end of 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom teased a civilisation in which humans and dinosaurs are forced to co-exist, with this latest Jurassic World instalment set to now explore this idea. The reboot of Steven Spielberg's beloved 1993 classic, Jurassic Park, introduced Pratt's Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire Dearing, and now the pair are set to reprise the roles they first brought to screens back in 2015.

The third instalment in the Jurassic World franchise and sixth Jurassic film overall will also see the return of Spielberg's legacy characters, Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum). With this classic trio set to unite with the franchise's newer characters, much of what lies ahead for the dino experts has been kept under wraps. However, recently released Jurassic World Dominion images teased the new set of teeth that the group will come up against, the Giganotosaurus. Dominion's position as the third film in the Jurassic World trilogy meant that many anticipated that this could be a goodbye for these characters, and now Pratt has seemingly confirming that this will be the case.

In a recent interview with The Today Show, Pratt confirmed that Dominion is the last film in the Jurassic franchise. The actor compared this third instalment to the finale of a "fireworks display," sharing that he feels as though "the whole movie is that." Pratt then went on to explicitly state that Dominion is the "end of this franchise." When asked if it really was the last film, Pratt reiterated that he really does "think it's the end," revealing that the way in which the legacy character's stories converge with the film's cast is very much consistent with a finale. Read Pratt's full quote below.

"You know you go to like a fireworks display, like 4th of July or New Years and there’s always the finale, you’re like waiting for it and then BOOM you’re like oh, this is it! This is the finale! I feel like the whole movie is that, it’s like 30 years in the making, this is the sixth Jurassic film and it’s the end of this franchise.

I really do think it’s the end. You’ve got the legacy cast back, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, plus the cast of Jurassic World all converged, our storylines converging in a way that is very much a finale."

In the interview, Pratt went on to discuss how "insane" it was to work alongside Neill, Dern and Goldblum, recalling how he first saw Jurassic Park when he was 13 years old and that it was a "dream to come true" to work with the trio, whom he called "icons." The official Jurassic World Dominion trailer has teased a number of intense action sequences, as well as some fun interactions between the legacy cast and the Jurassic World characters. However, Pratt's comments tease that perhaps one or more of the franchise's beloved characters may meet their end in this next installment, given his emphasis on its finality.

Pratt confirming that this will be the end for the Jurassic franchise is no doubt disappointing to many who were excited by both the action and nostalgia promised by the upcoming Dominion, and perhaps hoped there would be more. However, it's fair to say that ending the Jurassic universe reboot with a rounded-out trilogy was likely always the plan. Of course, one can truly never say never, as Pratt's comments do not rule out a return at some point in the future. For now, audiences are gearing up to sink their teeth into Jurassic World Dominion when it finally hits theatres on June 10.
