Warning! Spoilers ahead for Jurassic World Dominion!

The original Jurassic Park film receives the perfect callback in Jurassic World Dominion with its biggest death. Bringing the franchise's second trilogy to a closeDominion brings back several legacy characters from the first Jurassic films, including the movie's primary antagonist. As the heroes of Dominion try to survive while working to expose the corruption of the company Biosyn, the head of the company Dr. Lewis Dodgson (played by Campbell Scott, recasting of the original character) eventually meets his demise near the film's end, mirroring a death from 29 years earlier on Isla Nublar.

First appearing in 1993's Jurassic Park, Dodgson is a leading executive at the Biosyn Corporation, the chief rival of InGen who desperately wants to be competitive by having dinosaurs of their own. Bribing one of Jurassic Park's computer programmers named Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) to steal embryos off the island using a fake Barbasol can, Dodgson was offering 1.5 million dollars. However, Nedry never got the chance to collect the full amount for his services. After shutting down park security to create a distraction for his escape from the island, Nedry got lost and was attacked by a venom-spitting Dilophosuarus, the gruesome nature of his exact death being left to the audience's imagination after the carnivore spit venom into his eyes and trapped him inside his jeep.

29 years later, Dodgson has become the head of Biosyn. Using the company's dinosaur sanctuary to appear altruistic, Dodgson in truth had Jurassic Park's Dr. Henry Wu developing prehistoric locusts to eat any crops that weren't developed by Biosyn, allowing them to control the food markets. However, their rapid reproduction and unexpected longevity put the entire world's food supply at risk, motivating the film's heroes to expose the corruption. Eventually, this led to a full evacuation of the Biosyn's facilities and the dinosaur sanctuary. Forced to flee, Dodgson tries to make his escape only for his pod to shut down when the mainframe was rebooted. Having a Barbasol can as a trophy, Dodgson drops the can just before he's attacked by 3 Dilophosuars, serving as the perfect mirror to Nedry's death almost three decades earlier. Just like Nedry, the audience is left to imagine Dodgson's demise after he is coated in the paralyzing venom.

Dilophosaurus-Attacks-Nedry-In-Jurassic-Park

Not only does Dodgson's death serve as the perfect callback to the original Jurassic Park, but it finally gives the Dilophosuars their first true screentime in the entire Jurassic World trilogy. In the first Jurassic World, the Dilophosaur was only featured as a hologram in the visitor's center. Additionally, they were never seen and only heard in the bushes at the very beginning of Fallen Kingdom. Combined with the scene where Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) saves Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) before a Dilophosaur can spit on her, the fan-favorite predator definitely gets some well-deserved justice after being sidelined in the first two films.

In any case, the death of Dodgson is a truly dynamic homage to the death of Nedry in the first Jurassic ParkAfter all, it was Nedry's actions for Biosyn that arguably set the rest of the franchise in motion. While it's never directly specified, Dodgson's trophy appears to be the very same Barbsol can he gave to Nedry all those years ago, proving its significance and making the executive's death in Jurassic World Dominion all the more satisfying as the perfect callback.
