The new trailer for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is out, and it teases a new genetically engineered dinosaur threat even deadlier than the Indominus Rex. The Netflix animated series developed by Zack Stentz stars Paul-Mikél Williams, Sean Giambrone, Kausar Mohammed, Jenna Ortega, Ryan Potter, and Raini Rodriguez. Camp Cretaceous season 3 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on May 21.

Set during and immediately after the events of the first Jurassic World film, Camp Cretaceous follows a group of teenagers who come to Isla Nublar as part of an exclusive youth camp experience. The park breaks down and the dinosaurs break free shortly after the campers’ arrival, sending the group on a frantic fight to survive in the wilderness of the abandoned park. Season 2 saw the campers trying to assemble the means to escape, but it looks like their efforts were in vain – at least, for now.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 3 sees the teens still stranded on Isla Nublar after a tropical storm batters the island. The new trailer shows Darius, Sammy, Kenji, and the rest of the crew digging deeper into the genetic experiments performed on Isla Nublar by Jurassic World’s Dr. Henry Wu, ultimately uncovering a new dinosaur even more aggressive and deadly than the Indominus Rex. From the looks of it, the campers will have their work cut out for them avoiding the new dino while looking for a new way to get home. The topic of genetic modification has played heavily into the Jurassic World franchise, and it should be interesting to see the new creature Dr. Wu bred in his lab. Camp Cretaceous has been generally well-received through its first two seasons, expanding on the world of the franchise in fun ways while also providing solid stories for younger viewers. That balance of new and old will hopefully continue to find the show success in season 3.

For longtime fans of the Jurassic Park franchise, Camp Cretaceous season 3 will help fill the time before the next core film, Jurassic World: Dominion, releases in 2022. The new movie will reunite original film characters Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), promising some interesting parallels with the older films in the series. In the meantime, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 3 is scheduled to release on Netflix on May 21, bringing more animated dinosaur mayhem along with it.
