Warning: SPOILERS for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 1.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 2 can continue the tale of survival of the six teenage campers - that is, if Netflix chooses to renew the series. Here's everything we know about the story and when the next chapter could release. Executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow, and Frank Marshall, with Zack Stentz serving as showrunner, Camp Cretaceous is the first animated half-hour series set in the Jurassic World universe. Season 1 is comprised of 8 episodes and was released exclusively on Netflix on September 18, 2020.

The story of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous takes place concurrently with the events of Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World in 2015. Six teenagers are chosen to become the inaugural campers of the new youth-centric program in Jurassic World, but just days after their arrival the Indominus Rex breaks loose and triggers the destruction of the park. The campers, who are on the other side of the island, must race against time and survive on their own. They face numerous life-threatening dinosaur encounters as they try to make it to the docks so they can be evacuated.

Even though it centers on teenagers and is an animated series, Steven Spielberg's orders that Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous not be "a kiddie version" of the franchise were definitely honored. Since Camp Cretaceous season 1 ended with a terrifying cliffhanger, the story of the campers' survival in Jurassic World is poised to continue in season 2.

When Will Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Season 2 Release?

Netflix hasn't renewed Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous for season 2 yet. Season 1 was announced in 2019 and production began at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. But since Camp Cretaceous is an animated series, the producers, animators, and voice cast were able to work from home in order to deliver season 1's episodes in September 2020. Even with COVID restrictions remaining in place, this wouldn't prevent the continued production of Camp Cretaceous season 2.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 1 was designed to continue with season 2. If and when Netflix renews the series, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 2's release date will likely follow the planned theatrical release of Jurassic World: Dominion, which is currently scheduled for June 2021. This would give Jurassic fans an extra dose of dinosaur action even after the planned conclusion of Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World movie trilogy.

The cast of teenage campers will return for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 2, including Paul-Mikel Williams as Darius, Jenna Ortega as Brooklynn, Ryan Potter as Kenji, Kausa Mohammad as Yaz, and Raini Rodriguez as Sammy. Following Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous' season 1 finale, it's not clear if Sean Giambrone will return as Ben but it's quite possible Ben survived his fall from monorail and encounter with the Pteranodons.

It's possible Jameela Jamil and Glenn Powell may return as camp counselors Roxie and Dave, but Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 2 could also introduce new characters or even cameos from the stars of the films. B.D. Wong appeared as Dr. Henry Wu in Camp Cretaceous' second episode, "Secrets," but in Camp Cretaceous season 2, the opportunity is there for voice cameos by Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing, Chris Pratt as Owen Grady, or possibly even the Jurassic Park legacy characters like Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm.

What Will Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Season 2's Story Be About?

The events of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 1 ended in a surprisingly dark place as the campers were left behind when Isla Nublar was evacuated following the rampage of the Indominus Rex destroying the park and letting the dinosaurs loose. But fans also know that Isla Nublar is destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Sibo in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. That likely means Camp Cretaceous season 2's events would pick up soon after the end of season 1 and will fill in what happened on the island in between Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

There are numerous questions for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 2 to answer, such as how the campers will survive on the island and whether anyone else was left behind during the evacuation. It's unknown if Roxie and Dave were able to convince the ferry to turn around to save the kids or if a rescue mission is mounted. The ticking clock of Mt. Sibo's future eruption also looms over the campers. Overall, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 2 is poised to be an even more intense tale of survival in an island filled with dinosaurs than season 1 was.
