Jurassic World short film Battle at Big Rock releases on Sunday reveals a new poster shared by director Colin Trevorrow. The phenomenon that would eventually become the Jurassic Park/World movie franchise began in earnest in 1990 with the publication of Michael Crichton’s original novel about an amusement park showcasing genetically engineered dinosaurs (who of course wound up running amok).

No less a directing legend than Steven Spielberg climbed behind the camera to bring the thrills of Jurassic Park to the big screen with the aid of then-groundbreaking computer effects, and the 1993 movie of course went on to become another blockbuster for the director, grossing just over $1 billion worldwide. The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III followed, and both proved to be solid hits. The franchise then went on hiatus for 14 years before the 2015 release of Jurassic World, which proved audiences still had a huge appetite for watching dinosaurs go wild in an amusement park, going on to gross $1.6 billion worldwide. The sequel Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom came out in 2018 and kept the blockbuster train rolling, grossing $1.3 billion worldwide.

After the success of Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World 3 (as it’s currently being called) is set for 2021 with Jurassic World director Trevorrow returning as co-writer and director (he was dropped from directing Fallen Kingdom in favor of J.A. Bayona, though he did still receive a writing credit). To whet fans’ appetites for the official sixth movie in the franchise, Trevorrow has directed a short film titled Battle at Big Rock and today the director revealed that it will release Sunday, September 15 on FX. Trevorrow also included a poster which can be seen in the space below:

Trevorrow revealed via Twitter that the short stars André Holland (Castle Rock), Natalie Martinez (The I-Land), Melody Hurd (Fatherhood) and Pierson Salvador (Gotham), with cinematography from Larry Fong (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice), music by Amie Doherty (Star Trek: Discovery) and a script co-written by Emily Carmichael, who is also working on the screenplay for Jurassic World 3. According to website Jurassic Outpost, the short takes place a year after Fallen Kingdom in a National Park where dinosaurs are now running wild, and involves a family involved in a fight for survival after they encounter the wild dinos.

With the next Jurassic World movie still a couple years away, fans of the films will no doubt be thrilled to have their cravings for dino mayhem somewhat satisfied with Trevorrow and company's short, which certainly seems to promise classic Jurassic Park style thrills (though likely without the massive spectacle of the Jurassic World movies). It will be interesting to see what Battle at Black Rock has in store for fans when it hits FX on Sunday.
