Jurassic World: Dominion's release date is delayed one year to June 2022. Even in the earliest days of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it was clear Hollywood would feel the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak well beyond just 2020. In recent weeks, studios are still adjusting their upcoming slates, pushing several highly anticipated projects back much further than originally anticipated. With new coronavirus cases continuing to rise (particularly in America, which has struggled to contain the virus), studios have decided it's better to delay their tentpoles than to risk releasing them during unprecedented and uncertain times.

Universal's Jurassic World: Dominion is one of the many titles to be affected by the pandemic. Starting production earlier in the year prior to the outbreak, the movie went on hold once things took a turn for the worse. Jurassic World: Dominion resumed shooting in July and has been moving along relatively smoothly - save for changes to location shooting. And though it's fortunately avoided any substantial setbacks in the resumption, Jurassic World: Dominion is still feeling the effects of the pandemic.

Universal announced Jurassic World: Dominion's release has been pushed back to June 10, 2022. It was originally scheduled to come out on June 11, 2021. Director Colin Trevorrow took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the delay and share a new poster, which you can see in the space below:

From the sound of things, Universal was motivated to move Jurassic World: Dominion in an effort to put it in a better place to succeed. With all of the delays, several of 2020's would-be tentpoles are now 2021 releases, including Universal's F9, which is set to come out just two weeks before Jurassic World: Dominion's original release date. The previous two Jurassic World films both grossed over $1 billion, so this third installment is likely to do very well commercially. That said, it still represents a major investment for Universal, and they'd rather it come out at a time where it won't be facing much competition. Now, F9 can be the studio's big summer release for next year, with Jurassic World: Dominion following suit in 2022.

In the end, the change could be beneficial for Jurassic World: Dominion. If principal photography wraps in October as anticipated, director Colin Trevorrow and company will have plenty of time to take care of post-production, including any needed reshoots. Jurassic World: Dominion's new release date is 20 months away, meaning there's no reason why the final product should feel like it's rushed. It's unfortunate audiences have to wait a little longer to see Jurassic World: Dominion (which marks the return of the original Jurassic Park cast) on the big screen, but hopefully it will all be worth it.
