Jeff Goldblum is hinting characters from the original trilogy could appear in Jurassic World 3. While the original Jurassic Park is considered one of the greatest summer blockbusters of all time, the reception to the various sequels has been mixed. The Lost World: Jurassic Park had some fun set pieces but lacked the heart of the first adventure, and Spielberg later admitted he was bored while making it. Jurassic Park III barely had a plot and is considered the weakest of the series.

It took close to 15 years for another film to arrive, with the studio considering bizarre concepts like a squad of human/raptor hybrids armed with guns. Jurassic World eventually settled on the simple concept of showing what would happen if the park was up and running - and then things went to hell. The movie was a gigantic hit, grossing over $1.6 billion worldwide. A sequel titled Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom arrives this summer, and an untitled third adventure is confirmed for 2021.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will feature a cameo from Jeff Goldblum's Ian Malcolm, who testifies before a Senate hearing on dinosaurs. Goldblum hinted during a recent red carpet appearance that Laura Dern may also be appearing in the movie, and in a new interview on Watch What Happens Live, suggested other characters might be appearing in Jurassic World 3.

A recent story teased Sam Neill may also make a Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom appearance, but for now, any suggestion of surprise cameos should be treated as rumor. Goldblum is being quite coy in his comments, but they suggest at the very least that at least one character from the original trilogy will appear in the third movie. Given his comments about Laura Dern, the smart money would favor at least a cameo by Ellie Sattler, but again, that's speculation for now.

Dern had a busy year in 2017, playing Diane in the Twin Peaks revival, Renita Klien in Big Little Lies and Vice Admiral Holdo in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Jurassic World set itself apart from the original trilogy by bringing in a new batch of characters, but given the film's numerous nods to the original movies, it seems inevitable the new trilogy would revisit familiar characters at some stage. Fans will have to wait to see if any surprise cameos pop up in Fallen Kingdom, but its probably a safe bet some classic characters will return for Jurassic World 3.
