Universal has dropped one last Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom teaser ahead of Thursday's full trailer release. The trailer will debut during NBC's Thursday Night Football, and will then be all over the internet.
The Jurassic World sequel sees Owen (Chris Pratt) returning to help his now-former girlfriend Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) when a volcano threatens to destroy the island where she and her dinosaurs now live. Previous teasers showed the ever-adorable Pratt meeting two of the movie's dino-stars, T-Rex and Baby Blue. The first movie's big, bad Indominus Rex is also expected to make his return. A recent behind-the-scenes clip teased the return of Jeff Goldblum's Jurassic Park character Ian Malcolm. According to Goldblum, most of his dialogue is taken straight from Michael Crichton's original novel.
The last trailer teaser from Universal for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom continues the campaign of showing Owen reacting with wonder/surprise as he meets various dinosaurs. In the clip, we are shown the first time that Owen met the Velociraptor "Blue', which he was shown training and working with as an adult in the original Jurassic World.
Steven Spielberg's original Jurassic Park was a box office phenomenon and a groundbreaking visual effects tour-de-force. Arriving 14 years after the final Jurassic Park sequel, Jurassic World was a risky bet to some. The movie wildly outpaced those low expectations, grossing $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. Director Colin Trevorrow smartly stuck close to the Jurassic Park formula in conceiving Jurassic World: Soften the audience up with awe-inspiring dinosaur imagery, then plunge them into an extended thrill-ride. Though some found Trevorrow's film cheesy, it delivered the goods on an elemental level.
Directed by J.A. Bayona, Fallen Kingdom is said to be scarier than Jurassic World. We have also been promised at least one outright insane action scene, including a big underwater sequence. It's unlikely that Bayona has strayed far from the approach that made Jurassic World a hit, but we do know at least one tweak to the formula: in this film, the dinosaurs are not necessarily the main threat. Though the volcano may start out scarier than the dinos, one assumes that once chaos is unleashed, all the scared dinosaurs will be at least as dangerous as the flying lava bombs and roaring pyroclastic flows.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom also stars BD Wong, Toby Jones, Ted Levine, James Cromwell, Rafe Spall, Geraldine Chaplin, Justice Smith and Daniella Pineda.
