Jurassic World 2 star Bryce Dallas Howard posted a photo from the set of co-star Justice Smith wearing a "The future is female" shirt. Universal Pictures' Jurassic Park franchise first kicked off with Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic, which was followed by two sequels in the late '90s/early '00s. Then, the franchise was revived in 2015 with Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World, picking up decades after the initial movie and following the titular theme park as it was attacked by a hybrid dinosaur created by scientists. Next, fans will get to return to a world filled with dinosaurs in Jurassic World 2, this time with director J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls) at the helm.
The sequel will see the return of Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, who played Velociraptor trainer Owen Grady and the park's operations manager Claire Dearing, respectively. As it was also recently reported, Jurassic World 2 will feature Jeff Goldblum, returning as his Jurassic Park character Dr. Ian Malcolm. However, the upcoming sequel will also introduce new characters, including a young scientist played by Justice Smith (The Get Down) and John Hammond's partner Benjamin Lockwood played by James Cromwell. Jurassic World 2 started filming earlier this year, and a new photo surfaces from the set.
Howard posted an image to Twitter of Smith on the set of Jurassic World 2, wearing a shirt that reads, "The future is female." Howard captioned the photo with, "Diggin' this guy's shirt. Day 31," indicating how long they've been in production on production Jurassic World 2. Take a look:

Those on set of Jurassic World 2 haven't been shy about posting photos to social media, with Bayona himself posting images of the dinosaur puppets, or Trevorrow (who's involved in the sequel as a producer and co-screenwriter) posting an image of dinosaur eggs. However, each of these photos from the set have only teased small bits of what fans can expect from Jurassic World 2, and they may be more revelatory than Howard's latest image of Smith since he may not even be in costume.
The photo appears to be from the parking lot of the set location, so it's likely Howard snapped the photo of Smith on their way in for the day - before they'd gotten into their costumes. Although we don't know much about Smith's character, he's rumored to be playing a scientist and since viewers will probably meet him while he's at work, it's more likely he'll be dressed in a white lab coat - similar to those working for returning geneticist Dr. Henry Wu (B.D. Wong) from Jurassic World.
Still, this photo of Smith will no doubt remind Jurassic World fans of the debate surrounding Howard's character in the weeks after the film's release. Claire spent much of Jurassic World in high heels trekking through the wilderness areas of the park and running from dinosaurs, which many viewers and critics pointed out as unrealistic. Although Howard argued that her character would rather remain in heels than go barefoot, the debate prompted Jurassic World 2's Bayona to confirm Claire won't be in heels in the sequel. Of course, while fans may appreciate sensible footwear for Claire, Smith's new character wearing a "The future is female" shirt would make for another female empowerment aspect of Jurassic World 2 - that is, if it turns out to be part of his costume.
